DHAKA: The inhuman atrocities against the Hindu minority community in Bangladesh doesn’t seem to de-escalate under the interim government led by the Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus. The irrational and radical Islamist mob has lately set ablaze a Hindu home in the Chattogram region. Not just the Hindu home was set ablaze but the radicalists also have displayed a stern warning to the family. The innocent family have been asked to stay silent and refrain from the anti-Islamist activities or else they have been threatened to encounter severe repercussions. However, there is no evidence to acknowledge that the Hindu family is indulging in anti-Islamist activities.

When the house was torched, all the members of the Hindu family were able to escape in a fraction of seconds by cutting through the fence. However, their property, pets and other belongings were completely dusted down and burnt to ashes. The banner displayed in the vicinity read that the Hindus were involved in anti-Islamist activities in Bangladesh thus a stern warning was etched in the banner. The incident occurred in the house of the expatriates Jayanti Sangha and Shukushil in Chattogram.

The banner written in Bengali said, “This is to inform the Hindu residents of this area that you are being closely observed. You are accused of engaging in activities against Islam and the Muslim community. You are hereby warned to stop your movements, meetings and activities immediately. If you fail to comply, you will face severe consequences. No one will be able to protect you”. The banner further asserted it as the final warning and any non-compliance would lead to massive consequences that the house, properties and businesses of the Hindu family, nothing will be spared. “Any resistance will result in serious action”, the banner scribed in Bengali further exclaimed.

This attack on the Hindu family is seen as a latest violent incident targeting the Hindu community that is been spiking in Bangladesh since August 2024 when a massive and violent student protest led to the dismantle of the elected Sheikh Hasina regime and the interim government under the Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus took over the administration of the country. Series of anti-India and anti-Hindu violent acts have been rising in Bangladesh revolutionised by the radical Islamist and illogical mob. Hindus have been targeted and attacked baselessly under the allegation of blasphemy and other crimes.

Earlier, a Hindu youth named Dipu Chandra Das, a 27 year old garments worker was mercilessly dragged, beaten to death, hanged to a tree and set on fire in Mymensingh region of Bangladesh. Provocative statements are repeatedly made targeting the Northeast region of India, thus attacking the sovereignty, territorial integrity of India. This indeed poses a major security risk to New Delhi. Its high time the interim government in Bangladesh realizes its grave mistakes and works to restore law & order in the country. At the same time, the fundamental rights of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh also has to be protected.
