The nation on December 23, marked National Farmers’ Day (Kisan Divas) with heartfelt tributes to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Chaudhary Charan Singh, remembering his lifelong commitment to farmers, agriculture and rural empowerment. The day, observed annually on December 23, commemorates the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of India, widely regarded as a messiah of farmers’ rights.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on social media platform X, paid homage to Chaudhary Charan Singh, calling him a towering statesman who dedicated his life to the welfare of deprived sections of society and the prosperity of farmers. The Prime Minister said a grateful nation can never forget his immense contributions to nation-building, agriculture and rural India.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also remembered the former Prime Minister, paying tribute to his unwavering commitment to the welfare, dignity and empowerment of farmers. Extending greetings on National Farmers’ Day, CM Dhami said Chaudhary Charan Singh placed agriculture and rural development at the very centre of national policymaking.
“On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of the country, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Chaudhary Charan Singh ji, the empowered and fearless voice of farmers, countless salutations. He struggled throughout his life for the rights, pride and empowerment of the food providers by placing agriculture, rural India and farmer dignity at the heart of policies and decisions,” the Chief Minister said.

CM Dhami also extended greetings to farmers across the country, reiterating the Uttarakhand government’s commitment to farmer welfare. “Heartfelt greetings to all food providers and farmers on National Farmers’ Day. Our government is committed and working towards the welfare, respect and empowerment of farmers,” he added.
Several political leaders across the country joined in paying tribute on the occasion. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan remembered Chaudhary Charan Singh as a leader who remained dedicated throughout his life to the welfare of farmers. He said the former Prime Minister’s ideas and principles continue to remain relevant as India moves towards becoming a developed and self-reliant nation.
“On the birth anniversary of the messiah of farmers, former Prime Minister, ‘Bharat Ratna’ revered Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji, millions of salutations. His thoughts will always remain relevant in the creation of a developed and self-reliant India. His life dedicated to national upliftment and farmer welfare will forever inspire the nation,” Chauhan said.
December 23 is observed as Kisan Divas to recognise the invaluable contribution of farmers to India’s social and economic fabric. Chaudhary Charan Singh, known for championing agrarian reforms and rural upliftment, continues to be remembered as a steadfast advocate of farmers’ rights and a symbol of grassroots leadership.
