The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has released the RESPOND Basket 2025, featuring a set of research problem statements aligned with its current and future mission requirements. On December 16, ISRO Chairperson Dr V Narayanan released the RESPOND Basket 2025 during the inauguration of the ISRO–Academia Day.

In his inaugural address, Dr Narayanan emphasised the crucial role of academia in providing innovative ideas, advanced research, and skilled human resources to India’s expanding space programme, while highlighting the impact of the RESPOND programme in addressing complex technological challenges through collaborative research.

As part of the programme, ISRO scientists delivered detailed technical presentations on the research topics included in the RESPOND Basket 2025, offering academic participants deeper insights into mission-driven requirements, expected outcomes, and potential avenues for collaboration.

The RESPOND Basket comprises the most urgent and significant research problems identified by ISRO and the Department of Space centres and units, based on ISRO’s forthcoming programmatic R&D needs.

In the coming decades, ISRO is set to undertake several major missions, including the establishment of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station, the Chandrayaan-4 Moon Sample Return Mission, continuation of the Gaganyaan missions, a Venus orbiter mission, and a human landing on the Moon.

ISRO stated that the RESPOND Basket 2025 offers a comprehensive set of research themes aligned with India’s dynamic and evolving space programme, with a focus on emerging areas such as quantum computing, remote sensing, launch vehicles and materials, and advanced satellite communication systems.

Individual scientists or groups of scientists and faculty members affiliated with any academic institution or autonomous R&D organisation are eligible to submit proposals.

The RESPOND Basket 2025 invites research proposals from premier universities as well as other recognised academic and R&D institutions in areas relevant to ISRO’s upcoming missions and national priorities. The deadline for submission of research proposals is January 31, 2026. Proposals under RESPOND Basket 2025 must be submitted through the I-GRASP portal.
