JERUSALEM: In a major strategic edge for Israel in its hustle to completely dismantle the Hamas terror network, the Israeli Defence Forces(IDF) and the Israel Security Authority(ISA) has eliminated a major bulwark of Hamas. Raed Saad, the Head of the Weapons Production Headquarters of the Hamas Military Wing was eliminated by the Israeli forces. The IDF and ISA announced their strategic success on December 13, Saturday. Raed Saad is considered as one of the masterminds of the October 7, 2023 massacre when the Hamas launched a brutal attack on Israel leading to the death of nearly 1,200 Israelis and took hostage of 251 people.
A day later, Hamas militancy also confirmed the death of its senior leader Raed Saad who is the chief architect of the October 7 brutality and second-in-command of the Hamas armed wing. He was apparently hunted and killed in the tunnel network of Gaza by the Israeli Defence Forces(IDF). Raed Saad was eliminated along with his few other aides of the Hamas network. In a statement Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that he and the country’s Defence Minister had personally authorised the assassination of Saad.
Raed Saad was considered a strong pillar of Hamas and had risen through the ranks to become the armed wing’s second–in-command. Since the Israel-Hamass conflict broke out in October 2023 with Hamas attacking Israel, Raed Saad was secretly operating from the Gaza tunnel and coordinating the attacks. As the Head of the Hamas Weapons Production unit, he was spearheading the manufacturing of the dangerous weapons for the Hamas military wing. He was a kingpin in constructing the Gaza city bridge and was aiming to establish a naval force in the Gaza strip the consequences of which would have been disastrous for the peace and security of West Asia and beyond.
With the elimination of Read Saad, Israel has gained a major edge in its effort and resolve to completely dismantle and eradicate the Hamas terror network from its roots across the Gaza strip. However, with the latest escalation, the future of the fragile ceasefire mediated by the US President Donald Trump is hanging in doldrums. Despite the truce in place, in the recent weeks Hamas terrorist organisations have made repeated attempt to launch attacks on Israel. They have attempted to attack the Israeli Defence Forces with the eplosive devices, which is a clear violation of the ceasefire.
Israel also asserted that they found evidence to the fact that Hamas is rebuilding their establishments and capabilities, thus reorganising themselves to launch an attack on Israel under the leadership of Raed Saad. With his elimination, Israel has derailed the momentum and vital hand of the Hamas terror network to re-energize themselves. The termination of Raed Saad, one of the last remaining senior leaders’ of Hamas is the continuation in the series of eliminations undertaken by Israel with respect to the senior networks and bigheads of Hamas. However, amidst the strategic edge etched by Israel in the elimination of terror organisation, the future of the truce mediated by the US President Donald Trump, with great publicity and fanfare remains sceptical.
