A disturbing case involving allegations of sexual assault, blackmail, forced religious conversion, and police inaction has emerged from Bengaluru. A Hindu woman has accused a Muslim youth Mohammed Usman of trapping her in a relationship under the promise of marriage, sexually exploiting her, extorting lakhs of rupees, and threatening to leak her private photographs. The incident reportedly took place under the jurisdiction of the Suddaguntepalya Police Station.

The woman has further alleged that despite filing a detailed complaint in March this year, the police failed to take appropriate action for nearly nine months, leading her to severe mental trauma and even a suicide attempt.

According to the complaint, the accused,  Mohammed Usman, befriended the young woman through a mutual friend. Their friendship soon grew into a romantic relationship, after which they began living together in a live-in arrangement for nearly 1.5 years.

During this period, the accused allegedly took private photographs of the woman. When she tried to distance herself from the relationship due to his behaviour, he allegedly used these photos to blackmail her, threatening to show them to her parents.

The victim stated that the accused frequently abused her verbally and physically, causing physical harm and severe emotional distress. She also stated that Usman repeatedly pressured her to convert to Islam and warned her that she would face dire consequences if she refused.

A major part of the woman’s allegation centres on financial extortion. According to her complaint, Usman convinced her that he wanted to start a business and asked for financial help. Trusting him, the woman arranged Rs 12.2 lakh by borrowing money from her mother and friends. She says she gave the entire amount to Usman, believing he would return it once the business began generating income.

However, the demands for money reportedly continued. In December 2024, the accused requested more funds, after which the woman gave him an additional 14.5 grams of gold jewellery, worth around Rs 2 lakh. Despite repeated assurances, he reportedly failed to return the money or the jewellery.

The woman has also claimed that the accused threatened to kill her if she refused to marry him. In one instance, she says he threatened to “cut her into pieces like in the Delhi case”, referring to a widely-publicised murder incident.

This threat, she stated, deeply traumatised her and left her fearing for her life.

In March this year, the woman filed a formal complaint at the Suddaguntepalya Police Station. The FIR reportedly detailed allegations of sexual assault, physical violence, blackmail, extortion, threats of murder and forced religious conversion.

According to the victim, although the police briefly detained the accused after her complaint, no substantial action followed. She claimed that the police neither pursued the investigation seriously nor ensured her safety.
