NEW DELHI: In the wake of the powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, the national capital witnessed scenes of chaos and grief on Monday evening. Eight people were killed and several injured after a car exploded just meters away from the Red Fort Metro station, triggering a massive fire and panic in one of the city’s most crowded areas.

All the injured have been admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, where doctors and emergency staff are working round the clock. The hospital premises are now packed with families searching for their loved ones, many of whom remain unaccounted for since the explosion. Emotional scenes unfolded as relatives waited outside emergency wards for updates from authorities.

Residents and families can contact Delhi Police’s emergency number 112 for any immediate assistance. For hospital-related updates, LNJP Hospital’s main number (011-23233400) and emergency line (011-23239249) are operational to provide details about admitted patients. Additionally, the Delhi Police Control Room can be reached at 011-22910010 and 011-22910011. The AIIMS Trauma centre number is 011-26594405.

Authorities have also urged citizens to contact Fire Services at 101 and Ambulance Services at 102 or 108 in case of any emergency assistance.

List of those injured or who have died in the deadly explosion has also been released.

Several eyewitnesses described harrowing scenes of confusion and distress as smoke engulfed the area following the blast. “People were running everywhere. I saw at least three people lying motionless on the road,” said a local shopkeeper near the site.

Meanwhile, senior police officials and forensic teams continue to investigate the site, with a terror angle not being ruled out. The explosion occurred just a few hundred meters from Gauri Shankar Temple and Jain Lal Mandir, both popular religious landmarks, heightening fears of a targeted attack.

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information on social media.
