A woman in Kolkata has accused Nasir Khan, previously convicted in the infamous 2012 Park Street gang rape case, of physically assaulting and sexually harassing her at a nightclub located inside a five-star hotel in the city. The incident reportedly took place on October 26, while the woman was out with her husband, brother, and friends.

According to the complaint filed at the South Police Station, the altercation began after an argument broke out between the woman’s group and another group that included Nasir Khan, Juned Khan, and their associates. The complainant alleged that Nasir Khan, who had served a prison sentence in the Park Street case before being released in 2020, attacked her and tried to touch her inappropriately.

Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 126(2), 115(2), 117(2), 351(2), 3(5), and 74, pertaining to assault and outraging a woman’s modesty.

Notably, the complainant’s family had visited the restaurant for a business meeting, during which both parties were seated at the same table. The confrontation soon turned violent, with the woman alleging that Khan and his associates attacked them with glass bottles and later called around 20 more people to join the assault.

The woman stated in her FIR that when she dialled the emergency police helpline, she and her family were forced to take shelter inside the club’s liquor room as the club’s doors had been locked.

“They attacked us with bottles and tried to touch me inappropriately,” the complaint quoted the woman as saying.

Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh Kumar confirmed that the FIR was promptly registered and the victim’s statement recorded.

“We immediately lodged an FIR soon after receiving the complaint. CCTV footage from the club has been collected and is being examined. The investigation is underway, and every aspect of the case is being probed with priority,” he said.

Police officials added that the identities of the accused, including whether the person involved was indeed Nasir Khan, are being verified as part of the investigation. As of Tuesday (October 28) evening, no arrests had been made.

Nasir Khan was among those convicted in the 2012 Park Street gang rape case, which drew national outrage for exposing the systemic apathy toward women’s safety in Kolkata. He was released from prison in 2020 after serving his sentence. The latest allegations against him have revived public concern over the rehabilitation and monitoring of convicts in high-profile sexual assault cases.
