Raipur: In a remarkable achievement which has illuminated the locals with joy, around 30,000 houses have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna [Gramin]- PMAY[G] in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district.
“This Diwali, thousands of families in Chhattisgarh will be illuminated with joy not only with the light of Diyas [Earthen lamps] but also with pride and self-respect of having a house of their own,” said the state government in an official statement issued on October 21.
“Under the PMAY [G], Raigarh district has achieved a remarkable feat by completing construction of more than 30,000 houses,” it added.
The statement noted that the achievement is a result of intention shown by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and commitment of the district administration to complete the work in a time-bound manner. It also noted the efforts put in by state’s Finance Minister OP Choudhary’s to help realise the dream of beneficiaries to have their own home.
This Diwali the courtyards of these new houses are going to be illuminated with Diyas. The festival this time will be truly special for the beneficiaries, it added.
As per details, the newly completed houses also includes those which were approved for the 2024-25 fiscal year, reflecting the efficiency at which the administration has carried out the work.
It also underscored the government’s sensitivity towards completing the houses for the marginalised one’s in a time-bound manner.
Work completed in mission mode by administration
The district administration led by Collector Mayank Chaturvidi played a pivotal role in ensuring the construction in a timely manner by turning it into a people’s movement.
Teams from the Panchayat and Rural Development Departments regularly visited the villages to track progress alongside promptly resolving issues of beneficiaries and accelerating progress through micro-planning.
Review meetings were also held to analyse and remove any obstruction in areas where construction work was slow. The promptness shown by the administration resulted in Raigarh becoming the first in the state to complete the construction of houses.
The district has also performed exceptionally well in carrying out the construction work of houses sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Man Yojna, with construction work completed of 150 out of the total 173 approved houses.
These houses were approved for the Birhor which falls under the category of Scheduled Tribes. The construction work on the remaining houses are also in progress. The houses allotted to the beneficiaries, mostly from the marginalised section will provide them with much needed stability and dignity.
Reacting to the progress made, Raigarh Collector Chaturvedi stated that Raigarh has consistently led the state in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
He added that these houses have provided stability and self-confidence in lives of the beneficiaries. Now, these homes will resonate with joy during every festival; the laughter of children, the light of lamps, and satisfactory smiles which indeed reflects the true success of the scheme.
The PMAY scheme as per the administration has not only provided shelter to the beneficiaries but also revitalised the rural economy by providing employment opportunities to the local youths employed as masons and women’s self-help group who were involved in supplying materials related to construction work.
