Pakistan, a country consistently supporting terrorism since its formation, this is indeed a global embarrassment. As a testament to this, globally wanted notorious terrorist Osama Bin Laden was hidden and found in Abbottabad, just a few kilometers away from the Pakistan military academy. This is one part of the Pakistan story. The other part of the story is the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif repeatedly coming under the global scanner for putting himself and the reputation of his country under sheer awkwardness.
His actions and speeches at globally reputed platforms are a pure piece of international awkwardness and entertainment. From headphone fumble to kneeling down under regimes such as USA or Russia, every moment gets widely circulated in social media. For example, lately Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and the Army Chief Asim Munir went to the White House with a suitcase apparently containing the rare earth minerals and thereby marketed Pakistan’s resources in Washington. This is a clear testament to the appeasement of Pakistan intended towards Trump to seek narrow geopolitical gains. Social Media quoted this Rare Earth drama as the “Selling away of Pakistan to Trump”.
The latest Gaza peace summit at Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, also emerged as a yet another platform to expose the awkwardness of Pakistan and its Prime Minister. On October 13, in the Gaza Peace Summit at Egypt nearly 20 Heads of the State from across the globe were in attendance. This includes French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
No matter the intensity and high-stakes of the meeting, Pakistan Prime Minister is bound to put himself in irrelevant and in fiddly situations.
Trump quotes Asim Munir as his favourite
US President Donald Trump took over the podium. Initially, he acknowledged the presence of the Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, Trump later added that he was expecting the Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir at the Gaza peace summit. Apparently, Trump also quoted Munir as he ‘favourite’. This is probably the biggest embarrassment for the Prime Minister of any country. When the Prime Minister himself is present in the dais, the US President recalls an officer who is at a lower-rank than the PM and quotes the lower rank officer as his ‘favourite’.
More importantly, it is also an acknowledgement or a reflection for the fact that who has the real control of Pakistan. Either the Prime Minister or the Army Chief? A clear testament to the nature of autocratic rule in Pakistan. For these statements of Trump, Shehbaz Sharif made awkward facial gestures.
Trump praises PM Modi
Continuing with his speech, as Shehbaz Sharif stood behind Donald Trump, the US President began to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top and he has done a fantastic job”, asserted President Trump. While the US President praised PM Modi in his absence, in the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Trump quoted Asim Munir.

This exactly testifies the state of administration and governance in Pakistan. Yet another example for the awkwardness faced by Shehbaz Sharif.
Pakistan PM unapologetically hails Trump for ending India-Pak conflict
US President made a mockery of the Pakistan Prime Minister at a global stage. Yet, Shehbaz Sharif when given the podium began to unapologetically praise President Trump. He literally derailed the dignity of his country for the sake of politics and selfish goals. Pakistan PM also thanked Trump for ending the India-Pakistan conflict. “Had it not been for this gentleman, who knows, India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers, had he not intervened with his wonderful team during those four days, the war could’ve escalated to a level and who would’ve lived to tell what happened”, said Shehbaz Sharif.
For the sake of narrow political deeds, Pakistan PM made irrational and baseless assertions that Trump ended the India-Pakistan conflict. Just to impress President Trump. He also quoted Trump as the “most genuine and most wonderful” candidate for the Noble Peace Prize. Pakistan PM also claimed that Trump has saved millions of lives in South Asia by ending the conflict between India and Pakistan.
The rants by the Prime Minister of Pakistan continuous. Another day and another international forum. However, self-invited humiliation never ends. While, social media considers it as an entertaining piece, the ultimate truth is such actions reflect the state of affairs and the nature of the leaders who are at the helm in Pakistan. Islamabad is unable to handle the extreme ruptures in Pakistan’s domestic polity. From protests against the system in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir to the burning state in Balochistan or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan is a disintegrated nation. Instead of rectifying its internal fissures, its leaders go to global stages and foreign countries, just to get embarrassed, but not to contribute in any real terms either for their own country or for the world.
