Tripura: 14 months old infant raped, killed and buried by maternal grandfather; Accused Jainal Uddin arrested in Assam

A 14-month-old infant in Tripura was brutally raped, murdered, and buried by her grandfather’s brother, identified as Jainal Uddin. The crime occurred in Panisagar subdivision of North Tripura

Agartala: In a shocking case of brutality, a fourteen month infant was raped and murdered in Tripura. The heinous crime was committed by the victim’s one of the grandfathers (victim’s own grandfather’s brother). The baby was raped, killed and buried by the accused Jainal Uddin in Panisagar subdivision in North Tripura. The accused Jainal was arrested by police in Neelam Bazar area of Assam on the evening of October 12. He has been brought back to Tripura for further investigation.

As per report, the infant was visiting his maternal grandfather’s home with her mother. On the evening of October 11 her mother went to the nearby market leaving the infant with her uncle. But on returning home she found that the infant was missing. An eyewitness said that Jainal Uddin took the infant to the nearby paddy field. But when they didn’t return home till 8 p.m. the victim’s mother and family informed the police. Police immediately launched a search and during the search operation police recovered the child’s body buried in the backyard of the house. The body of the infant victim was immediately sent to Panisagar sub-divisional hospital for post mortem.

The postmortem report revealed that the infant was sexually assaulted causing her death. The accused Jainal fled the.crime scene and an FIR was formally lodged by the child’s grandfather on Sunday morning. Police started a manhunt on Sunday and the accused was arrested from Neelam Bazar area in Sri Bhumi district of Assam. He was planning to flee to West Bengal by rail from Silchar station in Assam. SDPO Rahul Balhara said that a case of rape and murder has been registered against the accused Jainal Uddin. Police are waiting for the official post mortam report of the infant victim. But the inhuman and heinous crime has jolted the people of the state and locals are demanding severe punishment of the culprit.
