New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted four more accused in a case related to promotion of banned Maoist outfit’s terror activities in Chhattisgarh.

According to NIA, three of the accused, identified as Sunita Potam, Shankar Muchaki and Dashrath alias Dasru Modiyam, were office bearers of Moolwasi Bachao Manch (MBM), a frontal organisation of CPI (Maoist) while the fourth accused, Mallesh Kunjam, was an armed cadre of CPI (Maoist) and is still absconding.

MBM, a frontal outfit of Maoists was banned by the Chhattisgarh government under section 3[1] of Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act 2005 in October 2024.

NIA on August 25 had also chargesheeted Laxhman Kunjam, Raghu Midiyami, and Gajendra Madvi, all associated with MBM. The accused were chargesheeted in connection with a case related to collection, disbursal and utilization of Naxal terror funds, said NIA in a statement.

These funds according to the agency were utilized by CPI [Maoist] to further their activities including staging of protests against establishment of security camps and carrying out of development activities by the State in remote areas.

It is to be noted that NIA has been investigating several cases linked with CPI [Maoist] and other banned group.

The agency on September 26 had also chargesheeted two operatives of the banned CPI [Maoist] in connection with the murder case of Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] leader Ratan Dubey of Chhattisgarh.

The accused Shivanand Nag and his father Narayan Prasad Nag were charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code [IPC] Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a supplementary chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh.

Dubey, a BJP office bearer was hacked to death by Maoists when he was campaigning at Koushalnar village in Jharaghati area of Narayanpur district in November 2023. The targeted killing, according to the NIA was aimed at disrupting the election and terrorising the local people.

The agency has also chargesheeted three other CPI [Maoist] cadres and a member of People’s Liberation Front of India [PLFI] from Jharkhand in separate terror related cases in September.
