Raipur: Maoists killed in Abujhmad encounter have been identified as Central Committee [CC] members of CPI [Maoist], said police on September 22.

Those killed in the encounter today was identified as Raju Dada alias Katta Ramchandra Reddy [63] alias Vikalp alias Gudsa Usendi and Kadari Satyanarayan Reddy [67] alias Kosa Dada, both CC members, carrying a bounty of Rs 40 lakh each as announced by the Chhattisgarh government, said officials.

They were both residents of Telangana and active with the Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee [DKSZC] of Maoists for over three decades.

According to details, Katta Ramchandra Reddy alias Vikalp was the spokesperson of the DKSZC while Kadari Reddy was said to be in-charge of the formation.

Both of them masterminded several violent attacks which killed security personnel and civilians. Details regarding their criminal records and reward announced by other states are being collected by police.

The operation was launched on inputs related to presence of Maoists in forest area of Abujhmad region along Maharashtra border. A joint team of Indo Tibetan Border Police [ITBP] and District Reserve Guard [DRG] was subsequently dispatched on a search operation in the area and a gun battle broke out between the security team and Naxals on Monday morning, after which body of two Maoists were recovered from the spot.

An AK-47 rifle, one INSAS rifle, one Brigade Grenade Launcher [BGL] along with explosives in large quantity were also seized from the site of the gunfight. The forces have also recovered Maoist literature and other materials from the spot.

The neutralisation of Vikalp and Kosa Dada marks another major blow for the banned Maoist outfit which is in midst of a serious leadership crisis after several of its top leaders are gunned down in encounters this year.
