Following reports of a ban on the entry of Hindus into Abdullah Residency in Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh, the local administration has taken action by demolishing portions of the settlement that were found to be illegally constructed. The move came after State Energy Minister and local MLA Somendra Tomar wrote to the District Magistrate, calling for an investigation into the issue.

According to media reports, following the minister’s complaint, the Meerut District Magistrate formed a three-member inquiry committee led by Joint Magistrate and SDM Sadar, Dr. Diksha Joshi. On September 9, a joint team comprising police, administrative officials, and members of the Housing Development Council conducted an on-site inspection.

During the inspection, approximately 300 square metres of construction was found to be outside the approved layout. Shortly after, bulldozers were deployed, and the illegal boundary wall was demolished. Officials confirmed that while the colony had approval for 22,000 square metres of land, the builder had encroached on an additional 300 square metres.

The investigation into the colony’s construction is being carried out by a team that includes CO Civil Lines Abhishek Tiwari and Housing Development SE Rajeev Kumar. However, officials have declined to comment on the issue until the investigation is complete.

According to media reports, the colony was developed on land belonging to jailed gangster Shariq, and a mosque was also constructed within the premises. Minister Somendra Tomar raised concerns over this, pointing out that Abdullah Residency has been under development for the past 10 years with the apparent intention of settling only members of the Muslim community.

Tomar also questioned whether the construction of the mosque had received proper approval as per legal procedures. Regarding the alleged use of gangster Shariq’s land, he stated that a thorough investigation would be conducted. He emphasised that any attempt to create communal divisions would not be allowed to succeed.

According to media reports, around 90 per cent of the plots in Abdullah Residency have been sold to members of the Muslim community. Out of a total of 75 plots in the colony, only four are reportedly owned by Hindus. The project is jointly developed by two partners, Major General Javed Iqbal and Mahendra Gupta.

In response to these allegations, Minister Somendra Tomar formally wrote to the District Magistrate, urging strict action. This led to an official inspection, after which the illegal construction was demolished using bulldozers.
