Ranchi Police uncovered a sex trafficking operation being run out of a women’s hostel in the city on September 7. Ten women from West Bengal, along with the manager of the private hostel, have been detained in connection with the case.

The raid was carried out at Om Girls Hostel located in Lalpur, following a tip-off that women were being brought in from other states for sex work. Police have confirmed that the trafficking was part of an organised operation.

KV Raman, Deputy Superintendent of Police (City), Ranchi, stated: “The Senior Superintendent of Police received information about an organised group bringing women from other states for illegal activities. Acting on this, a raid was conducted at Om Girls’ Hostel. Ten women were detained and are currently being questioned. Their identities and documents are being verified. The individuals responsible for orchestrating this operation have been identified, and appropriate legal action is underway.”

Deputy SP KV Raman further revealed that the women detained are all adults and belong to various professional backgrounds, with most of them hailing from West Bengal. He confirmed that the women were residing in the hostel and that the manager had been taken into custody. Legal proceedings will also be initiated against the owner of the hostel.

“The individuals involved in arranging the deals, transporting the women, and facilitating the trafficking are being identified and verified,” Raman said. “We are also examining the payment methods used in the operation. Those found actively participating in this racket will be arrested and sent to judicial custody.” Police are now probing whether this was an isolated incident or part of a larger, organised sex trafficking network.
