Hyderabad: In a major push towards defence indigenisation, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has transferred three advanced materials technologies to industry partners. The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, handed over the Licensing Agreement for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) on August 30, 2025, in the presence of Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO.
The technologies transferred include:
High-Strength Radomes Manufacturing to BHEL, Jagdishpur, for production of high-quality radomes that protect missile sensors, strengthening self-reliance in missile systems.
DMR-1700 Steel Sheets and Plates for Defence Applications to JSPL, Angul, offering ultrahigh strength with high fracture toughness at room temperature.

DMR 249A HSLA Steel Plates for Naval Applications to SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant, ensuring robust, reliable material for naval vessel construction, meeting stringent defence specifications.
Dr Kamat lauded the R&D efforts behind these innovations and emphasised the significance of industry-research partnerships in scaling indigenous technologies and said these transfers demonstrate DMRL’s multidisciplinary expertise and commitment to advancing critical strategic materials.
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DMRL and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Under the agreement, DMRL will extend its technical expertise, facilities, and capabilities to support AAIB’s activities.
Senior officials including Dr RV Hara Prasad, Director General (Naval Systems & Materials), Dr Manu Korulla, Director General (Resource and Management), and Dr R Balamuralikrishnan, Director, DMRL, attended the event.
The transfer is expected to accelerate indigenous production of critical materials for defence and strategic applications, aligning with the government’s push for Aatmanirbharta in the defence sector.
