Hyderabad, Aug 20 : Telangana State BJP President N. Ramchander Rao alleged that mismanagement by the Congress government in supplying urea to farmers is leading to an artificial shortage in the state.
Addressing a press conference, Rao accused the Revanth Reddy government of creating panic in the minds of farmers by spreading false information that the Centre has not supplied sufficient urea to the state.
Vehemently denying allegations of the state Congress government on the supply of urea, the state BJP chief presented data on requirement, supply, stock and distribution, stating that the Modi government has supplied surplus urea to Telangana against its requirement. The Centre supplied 12.47 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) during the Rabi season 2024–2025 as against the state government’s requirement of 9.87 LMT. He further stated that the state government has sold only 10.43 LMT and still has 2.04 LMT as opening stock till March 2025, which is not being shown in its representation.
Rao alleged that the state government has failed to present facts before the farmers and is blaming the Modi government to derive political mileage. He accused the state government of spreading false information and mismanaging supply, which is leading farmers to hoard excessive stock.
He alleged that the Congress party is the “mother of all lies” and that its state government is also distorting “facts as lies”.

Giving details of urea supplied by the central government, the state BJP chief posed a challenge to Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao for a debate on the supply of urea.
Rao said, “I will resign from my post if my figures are proved wrong, or you should resign.”
For the Kharif season (from April 25 to September 25), the state government has a buffer stock of 7.22 LMT. The Centre has supplied 8.30 LMT out of the 9.80 LMT requirement of the state government till today, Rao said, questioning what has happened to the opening stock and pointing out that the Centre has time till October to meet the state’s requirement.
Stating that the Modi government is farmer-friendly, Rao said it has provided ₹1.40 lakh crore subsidy on fertilisers to help farmers and increase productivity.
He noted that there were some discrepancies in fertiliser production due to technical issues in the Ramagundam fertiliser plant and other places, but added that the technical snag has been resolved. An additional 50,000 metric tonnes of urea will reach Telangana very soon, Rao said.
The BJP chief also questioned Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao on why Khammam district needs additional stock of urea this time when last year it had consumed only 3,200 MT.
Answering a question, Rao asked why the Congress party has not announced a BC leader as Vice-President candidate if it is truly in favour of the welfare of BCs. He alleged that the Congress party has no sincerity in providing reservations to Backward Classes and only wants to use them as a vote bank.

As rains are lashing across the state, farmers are struggling for urea. Reports are coming that farmers are standing in queues for more than six hours for one bag of urea. Farmers are expressing anger that the Congress government, which promised good days for farmers before the elections, is now cheating them.
