New Delhi: In protest against the brutal attack carried out by SFI activists on ABVP Kerala State Secretary E. U. Eshwaraprasad on the night of June 21 in Thiruvananthapuram, as part of the ongoing movement demanding implementation of the PM SHRI scheme in Kerala, ABVP held a massive demonstration today at the Kerala House in Delhi. ABVP accused the Left government of sponsoring the attack and demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and strict action against the assailants. The organisation firmly believes that the PM SHRI scheme is in the interest of underprivileged and needy students and that opposing it has no justification. Rejecting this scheme on ideological grounds is unfortunate and against democratic values.
It is noteworthy that on April 18, 2025, an ABVP delegation led by State Secretary EU Eshwaraprasad had met Kerala’s Education Minister V. Sivankutty demanding the implementation of the scheme, which the government had rejected. Since then, ABVP has been consistently demanding its implementation through memoranda, public awareness drives, and protests across the state. On June 17, a Secretariat March was held, and on 20 June, peaceful protests with black flags were carried out in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.
Alarmed by these democratic movements, the state government, the education minister, and violent organisations like SFI thriving under their patronage, hatched a pre-planned conspiracy to crush the movement. On the night of 21 June, when ABVP’s State Secretary EU Eshwaraprasad was going to dine at a restaurant near Thiruvananthapuram railway station, SFI activists attacked him and left him seriously injured. He is currently admitted in the ICU. This was not a spontaneous attack, but a state-sponsored, premeditated act of political violence aimed at targeting ABVP’s leadership and suppressing the student movement.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma stated, “The attack on ABVP’s State Secretary in Kerala clearly shows that the Left government in Kerala has become ideologically bankrupt. With the support of the administration and power, they want to crush student movements through organised violence. Through this protest in Delhi, we warn that if the PM SHRI scheme is not implemented, if strict action is not taken against the culprits, and if violence in the education sector is not stopped, then ABVP will launch a statewide movement in Kerala.”
