From G7 threats to flag desecration: 24 incidents detail Khalistani war on India from Canadian soil

The enduring problem of Khalistani extremism, driven by a vocal minority, continues to pose a significant security challenge to Bharat, particularly from abroad. Despite clear evidence of India's inclusive policies and efforts towards national unity, certain radicalised elements, often operating from foreign soil with impunity, persistently propagate a narrative of secession and actively incite hatred against the Bharat state

At the G7 Summit 2025, held from June 15 to June 17, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s formal invitation to Canada by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was met with aggressive protests by Khalistani activists. During these demonstrations, these extremist elements not only issued direct threats to assassinate Prime Minister Modi but also desecrated the Tiranga, showing blatant disrespect toward the Tricolor.

In a significant development, Canada’s intelligence agency, CSIS, for the first time, publicly acknowledged on June 18, 2025, that Khalistani extremists are indeed operating from Canadian soil, actively promoting separatism and planning violence in Bharat. This admission confirms Bharat’s long-standing concerns regarding such activities.

This report comprehensively documents 24 incidents of Khalistani activities in Canada between 2018 and 2025, including 8 cases of extreme actions that occurred specifically during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Canada for the G7 Summit in 2025.

Khalistani activists unleash vitriol, desecrate Modi’s image post-G7 Summit

Following the conclusion of the G7 Summit on June 18, a disturbing video went viral showcasing Khalistani activists engaging in blatant acts of disrespect against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Canada. The footage captured these extremists hitting a poster of Prime Minister Modi with shoes, with the posters conspicuously emblazoned with “Wanted” and “Jailed.” Further intensifying their provocative display, the activists were also heard shouting abusive slogans and making derogatory remarks aimed at the prime minister, underscoring their virulent opposition.

“Kill Modi” slogans raised by Khalistani activists in Calgary

In a clear act of intimidation during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit for the G7 Summit, Khalistani activists in Calgary, Canada, escalated their protests with chilling calls on June 17. Demonstrators were heard raising slogans such as “Kill Modi” and prominently displayed posters featuring Modi’s image accompanied by the stark word “Wanted.” This direct incitement highlights the growing audacity of extremist elements operating on foreign soil.

Viral video from Canada shows Sikh children kicking PM Modi effigy; handcuffed poster displayed

A deeply concerning video from Canada went viral on June 16, depicting several Sikh children participating in the desecration of an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by hitting it with their feet. Furthermore, a poster of Modi with handcuffs was conspicuously mounted on a vehicle. Such imagery, involving minors in acts of political hatred, raises serious questions about the extremist indoctrination occurring within certain segments of the community.

Khalistani extremists issue direct threats against PM Modi at Calgary event ahead of G7 Summit

Just days before Prime Minister Modi’s participation in the G7 Summit, Khalistani extremists held a public event in Calgary, Canada, on June 16, where they issued direct and inflammatory threats against the prime minister. During this gathering, the leader of the banned group “Sikhs for Justice” publicly declared their aim to “wipe out Modi’s politics,” effectively calling for a targeted ideological and political assault on the prime minister. Adding to the inflammatory rhetoric, Manjinder Singh characterised Modi as a “Hindu terrorist” and actively urged Canadians to join their cause.

Khalistani activists in Canada desecrate Tiranga, praise terror leader, and call for ‘Balkanisation’ of India

Date: June 16, 2025 Place: Calgary, Canada

A viral video captured Khalistani activists engaged in a brazen act of contempt, desecrating the Tiranga by tearing it apart and stepping on it on June 16 in Calgary, Canada. During this egregious display, they chanted provocative slogans, including one that explicitly glorified Talwinder Singh Parmar: “We will fiercely defend the ideology of TALWINDER BABBAR.” Parmar, infamously the leader of the Khalistani terror outfit Babbar Khalsa, was identified as the mastermind behind the bombing of Air India Flight 182. Beyond disrespecting the Tricolor, these Khalistan supporters explicitly demanded that “PM Mark Carney kill Modi politics” and aggressively advocated for the “Balkanisation” of India, revealing their deep-seated secessionist agenda

Canada’s Shame: Khalistani extremists drag Indian flag, incite violence against PM Modi

In a deplorable act that epitomizes the unchecked aggression of Khalistani extremists operating on Canadian soil, a viral video, in Calgary on June 16 widely circulated by a user identified as “Shadow Intelligence” on Platform X, captured a deeply offensive display of contempt. The footage unequivocally shows the Indian National Flag and a poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi being dragged on the road in a highly disrespectful and deliberate manner.

Accompanying this brazen act of desecration was an inflammatory caption, explicitly stating, “Khalistan movement in Canada getting ready to welcome the person who murdered Sikhs in Canada. Modi is arriving at Calgary Airport. Get ready for protest.” This sickening rhetoric not only attempts to justify outright hostility but also serves as an open call for further disruptive and potentially violent actions. Such incidents underscore the urgent need for Canadian authorities to take decisive action against elements that openly disrespect national symbols and incite hatred against a friendly nation’s democratically elected leader.

Disturbing truck display targets Bhartiya leadership

On June 17, 2025, in Canada, a deeply offensive spectacle unfolded as a truck was paraded, adorned with posters depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in handcuffs and behind bars. This brazen display, designed to demonize India’s leadership, featured provocative text such as “Ambush Modi Politics” and “Wanted: Enemies of Sikhs.” The vehicle was surrounded by a crowd of Khalistani activists, vociferously chanting anti-India slogans, creating a highly charged and hostile atmosphere. Such imagery is not mere dissent; it is a calculated act of defamation against the leaders of a sovereign nation, intended to stir hatred and division.

Khalistani activist thanks Canadian PM for “opportunity to ambush and kill Modi”

Adding to the escalating provocations, a chilling video went viral on June 17, 2025, from Canada, capturing a Khalistani activist making an utterly shocking statement. In the video, the activist was openly heard thanking Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for inviting Narendra Modi to the G7, explicitly stating this provided “an opportunity to ambush and kill Modi in Canada.” This direct and unvarnished call for violence against a visiting head of state, made from within Canada, is an alarming demonstration of the extremist mindset at play. It underscores a profound failure to respect international diplomatic norms and raises grave concerns about the environment that allows such threats to be publicly uttered. The Canadian government’s response to such explicit incitement remains a critical point of scrutiny for its commitment to combating terrorism and protecting its allies.

Canada’s enabling environment for Khalistani terror: SFJ’s referendum and Nijjar’s legacy

On September 12, 2023, a designated terrorist organisation, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), brazenly conducted a so-called “referendum” at a gurdwara in British Columbia, Surrey. This audacious act of promoting secessionism occurred despite explicit concerns repeatedly voiced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about anti-Bharat elements openly advocating for India’s dismemberment from Canadian soil. The fact that this “referendum” was organised by SFJ, a group led by an individual officially designated as a terrorist by India, underscores Canada’s troubling permissiveness towards extremist activities. This particular shrine gains further notoriety as it was previously headed by SFJ leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a figure also designated as a terrorist by India, who was gunned down in its parking lot on June 18, 2023. This pattern of events highlights an alarming environment in Canada where radical groups are seemingly allowed to operate with impunity, posing a direct and persistent threat to India’s national security and integrity.

Tricolour burnt, patriot attacked by Khalistani mob in Vancouver

On July 9, 2023, during an anti-India rally in Vancouver, Canada, Khalistani extremists engaged in a deplorable act of national desecration by setting fire to the Indian national flag. This egregious display of contempt was tragically compounded when these same radicals physically attacked a brave pro-India man who courageously attempted to protect the dignity of the Tricolour. This blatant act of violence and disrespect followed a protest outside the Indian Consulate in Toronto on July 8, where hundreds had gathered to protest the unsolved murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, but quickly devolved into outright anti-India aggression.

New “Wanted” poster campaign targets Indian diplomats in British Columbia

On July 31, 2023, a deeply concerning new anti-India campaign emerged in British Columbia, Canada, as pro-Khalistan supporters escalated their efforts with a provocative poster campaign directly targeting India’s senior-most diplomats. A series of posters, conspicuously marked with the word ‘Wanted’, were prominently placed at various locations in Surrey. These malicious posters explicitly referenced the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent leader of the separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), who was killed at the Guru Nanak Singh Gurdwara Sahib on June 8, 2023. This insidious campaign represents a direct attempt to intimidate and malign Indian diplomatic personnel, exposing the hostile environment cultivated by extremist elements in Canada.

Khalistani separatists protest outside Indian consulate in Vancouver

On March 23, 2023, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Indian consulate in Vancouver, Canada. According to Canadian media reports, these individuals were openly demanding an independent Sikh state, underscoring the persistent presence of secessionist elements operating on Canadian soil.

Violent clash erupts between Khalistan supporters and Indians during Diwali in Mississauga

A disturbing incident occurred on October 23, 2022, during Diwali celebrations in Mississauga, Canada, when a video began circulating on social media depicting a violent clash between Khalistan supporters and Indians. Hundreds of people engaged in a tense face-off and sloganeering in the Malton area. The group of so-called Khalistan referendum supporters brandished banners and chanted slogans like ‘Raj Karega Khalsa,’ while the other group of Indians firmly countered with ‘Khalistan Murdabad’ slogans, highlighting the deep ideological divide and the readiness for confrontation.

Sikh separatist group holds ‘Khalistan Referendum’ in Brampton, Canada

On November 6, 2022, a Sikh separatist group organised yet another so-called “Khalistan Referendum” in the Canadian city of Brampton. This provocative event explicitly aimed to solicit votes from the Sikh diaspora in North America on whether areas of India with a Sikh majority should become an independent country known as “Khalistan,” directly challenging Bharat’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Indian students and Khalistan supporters clash over Khalistan issue on Diwali in Canada

On October 24, 2022, Diwali celebrations in Westwood Mall Square, Canada, devolved into a tense confrontation between Bhartiya students and Khalistan supporters. Bhartiya students gathered, proudly waving the Tricolour and chanting nationalist slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Jai Sri Ram.” They were met by Khalistan supporters who arrived with Khalistani flags, shouting “Khalistan Zindabad” slogans. The fireworks and heated exchanges continued for over three hours into the night, illustrating the volatility and ideological conflict that frequently plays out on Canadian public grounds, fueled by separatist agendas.

Canada’s newly unveiled Shri Bhagavad Gita park attacked

On October 1, 2022, in a blatant act of religious intolerance, the newly unveiled Shri Bhagavad Gita Park in Brampton, Canada, was subjected to vandalism, as confirmed by Mayor Patrick Brown. This park, designed to span 3.75 acres and feature sacred sculptures of Lord Krishna and Arjuna on a chariot, along with other revered Hindu deities, was defaced before its full completion. This deliberate attack on a Hindu cultural and spiritual site underscores a troubling pattern of targeted disrespect against Bhartiya heritage and religious symbols within Canada.

Mahatma Gandhi statue defaced in Canada: A hate crime against Bharat’s icon

On July 14, 2022, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, India’s Father of the Nation and a global symbol of peace, was disgracefully defaced at a ‘peace park’ in Richmond Hill, Canada. India swiftly condemned this abhorrent act, and Canadian police, acknowledging the severity, rightly classified it as a ‘hate crime.’ The desecration of such a universally revered figure sends a chilling message and highlights the pervasive nature of anti-India sentiment permeating certain elements within Canada.

Punjabi media host brutally attacked in Canada

On August 4, 2022, Punjabi media host Jyoti Singh Mann, a resident of Brampton in the Greater Toronto area, was subjected to a brutal assault by three armed men in the suburbs of Toronto. A video capturing this violent attack went widely viral in Canada, exposing the dangerous climate of intimidation and physical threat faced by individuals who do not conform to extremist narratives. This incident underscores the urgent need for Canadian authorities to ensure the safety of all residents, particularly those targeted for their perceived affiliations.

Pro-Khalistan supporters disrupt India-Canada friendship rally, insult national flag

On February 28, 2021, a rally organised by patriotic Canadian Indians to celebrate the vital ties between India and Canada was disgracefully disrupted by pro-Khalistan supporters. These extremists were caught on camera abusing the peaceful participants and, shockingly, insulting the national flag. This act of aggressive interference in a legitimate civic gathering, coupled with the disrespect shown to India’s national symbol, clearly demonstrates the confrontational and anti-democratic tactics employed by Khalistani elements seeking to sow discord.

Khalistani protesters disrupt Bharat’s Independence Day event in Mississauga

On August 15, 2021, a significant event organized by the non-profit Panorama India to celebrate India’s Independence Day in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga was marred by disturbances caused by Khalistani protesters. Reports at the time confirmed that these disruptive elements actively interfered with the solemnity and celebration of India’s national day, highlighting their persistent efforts to undermine Indian cultural and national pride even at celebratory events on foreign soil.

SFJ’s brazen threat to shut down Indian embassies globally

On December 8, 2020, intelligence agencies issued a critical alert to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding a chilling plot by the pro-Khalistan outfit, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ). This banned secessionist group openly declared its intent to “shut down” Indian embassies in major global cities, specifically targeting London, New York, and Toronto, on December 10. Such a blatant threat against diplomatic missions of a sovereign nation highlights the audacious and internationally co-ordinated nature of Khalistani extremist operations and demands robust action from host countries.

Canadian think tank exposes Pakistan’s role in fueling Khalistan movement; slams Trudeau government’s inaction

A damning report, titled ‘Khalistan: A Project of Pakistan’, authored by journalist Terry Milewski and released by the respected McDonald Laurier Institute on September 11, 2020, unequivocally accused Pakistan of actively fueling the Khalistan movement in Canada. More critically, the report directly implicated the then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau-led government, alleging that its inaction on this grave matter was driven by domestic political compulsions. This independent assessment from a Canadian source validates India’s long-standing concerns about external forces exploiting Canada to destabilise Bharat.

India designates nine wanted men, including SFJ’s Pannun, as terrorists under anti-terror law

In a decisive move to counter burgeoning extremism, on July 4, 2020, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officially declared nine wanted individuals, including Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), as designated terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). This crucial legislative action recognised Pannun’s relentless campaign against Bharat, specifically his efforts to radicalise and motivate Sikh youngsters in Punjab to join militancy from his base in the US, thereby acknowledging the serious threat posed by these individuals to national security.

Ontario Gurdwaras ban entry of Bhartiya officials citing local trespassing law

In a concerning display of intimidation and political maneuvering, on January 3, 2018, 14 gurdwara management committees in Canada’s Ontario province unilaterally banned the entry of Indian officials to gurdwaras under their control. This unprecedented ban was officially imposed under a local trespassing law on December 20, 2017. This move effectively creates a hostile environment for Indian diplomats and officials, severely impeding their ability to engage with the Indian diaspora and monitor activities within these religious institutions, raising questions about the motivations behind such a widespread prohibition.

Ultimately, the persistent threat of Khalistani extremism, fueled by a radicalised minority operating with alarming impunity from abroad, continues to undermine Bharat’s national unity and security. Despite India’s demonstrable commitment to inclusive governance and national cohesion, the relentless propagation of secessionist narratives and incitement to hatred against the Indian state by these elements necessitates unwavering vigilance and decisive international co-operation to safeguard Bharat’s sovereignty and internal harmony.
