In a shocking case that has ignited widespread Hindu outrage in West Bengal, a teacher at Sangrami Nagar Higher Secondary School in Betberia allegedly pulled and broke the Tulsi beads mala fom the neck of a Hindu student. The teacher, identified as Abdul Hadid, is said to have forcibly removed the sacred beads, sparkin accusations of religious discrimination in the classroom.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Jibantala Police Station in South 24 Parganas, a region that has recently witnessed rising tension tied to West Bengal religious controversy and sectarian unrest.

West Bengal Violence: Local Hindus Protest, Police Allegedly Remain Inactive

As news of the incident spread, dozens of Hindu parents and local residents gathered outside the school, demanding the suspension and arrest of the teacher. Protesters held placards and raised slogans condemning the attack on a student’s religious freedom.

However, locals allege that police officials arrived only to disperse the peaceful protest without registering an FIR or taking any action against the teacher. This perceived indifference by law enforcement has intensified public anger over West Bengal attacks on Hindus, with many seeing this as yet another example of the administration’s failure to protect minority rights within the Hindu community.

Demands from the Community Over Religious Discrimination in Schools

The Hindus have called for the immediate suspension and arrest of Abdul Hadid, holding him accountable for what they see as an act of religious aggression. They are urging authorities to register a formal FIR under laws that address religious intimidation and harassment. In addition, there is growing pressure on the West Bengal Education Department to intervene, issue a strong condemnation, and implement safeguards to ensure that students’ religious beliefs are respected and protected in all educational institutions.

Wider Backdrop: West Bengal Religious Controversy Intensifies

This incident is not isolated. It adds to a disturbing trend of West Bengal Violence targeting Hindu students and religious practices, say local Hindu organisations. Recent weeks have seen a spike in unrest following protests related to the Waqf Act, with allegations surfacing that Hindu-owned lands are being unlawfully claimed or transferred under Waqf Board powers.

Protests against the Waqf Act in West Bengal have been met with police crackdowns in several districts, further fueling West Bengal Hindu outrage. Multiple incidents of attacks on Hindus in West Bengal have been reported during these demonstrations, with allegations of biased policing and suppression of dissent.

With the state already on edge due to religious land disputes and growing communal flashpoints, the Tulsi beads incident has added fuel to the fire. Civil society groups are urging both the state government and central authorities to ensure justice, uphold constitutional rights and address the rising patterns of religious intolerance in West Bengal.

As the hashtag #WestBengalViolence trends across social media platforms, all eyes remain on the West Bengal administration and its response to growing allegations of systematic bias against Hindus.
