Bijapur: Security forces have gunned down another top Maoist cadre in an encounter in National Park Area of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, suggest reports.

According to the preliminary information, a state committee member of the Maoist’s Telangana unit was killed in the exchange of fire that broke out between the security team and the extremists on June 6.

The security team has also recovered an AK-47 rifle from the site of the gunfight. The team during the gunfight has reportedly neutralised the secretary of Telangana state committee of CPI (Maoist). He was carrying a bounty of Rs 25 lakhs. An official confirmation about the development however is awaited.

The encounter is still underway and more details about the gun battle are awaited.

Earlier on Thursday, a joint team of security forces neutralised Maoist central committee member Sudhakar alias Gautam in an encounter in the Indravati Park Area.

The operation was initiated by a joint team of District Reserve Guards (DRG), CoBRA and STF after receiving inputs about presence of several top Maoist leaders including Sudhakar in the park area.

A member of the maoist Dandkaranya special zonal committee Sudhakar was active in the unlawful group for the past three decades. He was carrying a bounty of at least 40 lakhs on his head. He was wanted by the police of Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Maharashtra. Following the neutralisation of Sudhakar on Thursday, cadres of the proscribed group set ablaze a truck on the Bijapur highway late evening.

The encounter of Sudhakar marks another major blow to the outlawed organization almost a fortnight after personnel of DRG in an encounter neutralised the general secretary of CPI (Maoist) Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju on May 21.
