Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh approved 10 significant proposals during a cabinet meeting held on June 3 at Lok Bhawan, Lucknow. The meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister himself, focused on critical areas like employment, industry, digital infrastructure, education, and tourism. Notably, the cabinet passed proposals including 20 per cent reservation for retired Agniveers in the police and PAC, the launch of ODOP 2.0, the construction of Annapurna Bhawans, the establishment of new universities, and the introduction of the UP Bed and Breakfast Policy 2025.

Reservation of 20 per cent for Agniveers in Police and PAC

In a major decision aimed at supporting ex-servicemen under the Agnipath scheme, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved 20 per cent reservation for retired Agniveers in direct recruitment for posts like constables, PAC personnel, mounted police, and firemen. This move is seen as a strong step toward ensuring job security for Agniveers once they retire after their four-year service tenure.

This decision reflects the state government’s commitment to national service members, offering them dignified career opportunities in civil security services. The priority recruitment will provide direct entry pathways into UP Police and related services, thereby utilising their training, discipline, and experience in public safety roles.

ODOP 2.0: Boosting Local Products for Global Markets

The Cabinet also gave a green signal to ODOP 2.0 (One District One Product), an upgraded version of the original ODOP scheme. The revised plan focuses on making the local and traditional products from every district more competitive and market-ready for international trade.

Under ODOP 2.0, changes will be made to improve production quality, branding, packaging, marketing, and export facilitation. This move is expected to strengthen the MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) sector across Uttar Pradesh, generate employment, and put local artisans and manufacturers on the global map.

Annapurna Bhawan Construction for Public Distribution Efficiency

To streamline the Public Distribution System (PDS), the cabinet approved the construction of Annapurna Bhawans across the state. These centres will serve as central hubs for the storage and distribution of rations, ensuring food grains reach the poor and needy more efficiently.

This infrastructure development aims to remove bottlenecks in the existing PDS network and improve the transparency, accessibility, and accountability of food grain distribution in remote and underdeveloped areas.

Strengthening Digital Infrastructure: Data Center Policy Amendment

The Cabinet also approved revisions to the Uttar Pradesh Data Center Policy 2021. As part of the revised policy, M/s ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India Pvt. Ltd. will now be eligible to receive power supply through two separate grid lines. This initiative supports the growth of digital infrastructure in the state and encourages investment in data centres, which are crucial for the growing IT and digital services sectors. The availability of a dual power supply will ensure uninterrupted operations, boosting investor confidence and contributing to the creation of a robust digital ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.

New Universities Approved to Boost Higher Education

Approval has also been given for the establishment of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ramayana University in Ayodhya under the private sector. This university will focus on traditional Indian knowledge systems, including the study of the Ramayana. A Letter of Intent (LoI) has been issued to the sponsoring institution for the establishment of Ajay Kumar Garg University in Ghaziabad. The Cabinet also approved the revised proposal for the construction of buildings at Siddharth University, Kapilvastu, Siddharthnagar.

Tourism Boost: UP Bed and Breakfast Policy 2025

To give a major push to the tourism sector, the Cabinet approved the UP Bed and Breakfast (B&B) and Homestay Policy 2025. This policy allows private homeowners to convert part of their homes into accommodation for tourists at affordable rates. The initiative is expected to increase the number of tourist-friendly accommodations, generate self-employment for locals and promote cultural exchange and sustainable tourism. With increasing footfall in spiritual and historical destinations like Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Prayagraj, this policy could significantly improve the hospitality ecosystem in the state.

From social welfare to economic growth, education to employment, and infrastructure to tourism, the decisions taken are geared toward making Uttar Pradesh more inclusive, modern, and competitive. The approval of 10 major proposals not only addresses present-day challenges but also lays the foundation for a future-ready Uttar Pradesh. From providing secure employment to ex-servicemen to pushing local products onto global platforms and from expanding educational infrastructure to redefining tourism policies, these decisions cover a wide spectrum of governance.
