The Digital Postal Index Number (DIGIPIN) system, developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), introduces a grid-based addressing solution that assigns a unique 10-character alphanumeric code to every 4×4 meter unit across India.
Simultaneously, the ‘Know Your PIN Code’ portal upgrades the existing 6-digit PIN code system by integrating Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based geofencing to ensure accurate postal boundary demarcation. Both platforms are designed to improve last-mile connectivity, enhance emergency response capabilities, and foster innovation across sectors.
The Department of Posts has actively invited public feedback to refine these services, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of citizens and stakeholders.
