A harrowing case of sexual exploitation and coercion has emerged from Jamnagar, Gujarat, where Muhammad Akram, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker, is accused of raping a Hindu woman for three years under the false promise of marriage, forcing her to convert to Islam, and sexually abusing her 7-year-old daughter.

The victim’s complaint has led to a case being registered against Akram at the Jamnagar City A Division Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police have recorded the victim’s statement and are actively investigating the case.

The victim, a Hindu woman, met Akram during the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections when she was facing personal hardships. Akram, presenting himself as a supportive figure, allegedly lured her into a relationship with promises of help and marriage.

According to the victim, Akram falsely claimed he was unmarried and engaged in sexual intercourse with her multiple times over three years, exploiting her trust. She alleges that he coerced her into undergoing four abortions during this period, further compounding her trauma.

Relying on Akram’s promise of marriage, the victim divorced her husband and began living with him. However, approximately a year ago, she received a call from Akram’s wife and mother, who revealed his marital status and imposed a condition for the marriage: the victim would have to convert to Islam.

They allegedly pressured her to read the Qalma (Islamic declaration of faith) and visit a dargah. The victim further claimed that Akram’s family performed black magic on her, adding to her distress. In a particularly egregious accusation, the victim reported that Akram sexually abused her 7-year-old daughter, prompting her to approach the police.

Following the victim’s complaint, the Jamnagar City A Division Police Station registered a case against Muhammad Akram under the BNS for charges related to rape and coercion, as well as under the POCSO Act for the alleged sexual abuse of a minor. The police have recorded the victim’s detailed statement, which outlines the timeline of events and the nature of the exploitation.

Authorities are now investigating the allegations, including the claims of forced religious conversion and black magic, to ascertain the full extent of Akram’s actions.
