Raipur: Chhattisgarh deputy CM Vijay Sharma on May 7 clarified that the ongoing operation at Karregutta Hills along Telangana border is part of routine campaign being carried out by the security forces against Maoists in state’s Bastar division.

In a statement released on Wednesday evening the deputy CM who also oversee the state’s Home Department said “That no operation namely Mission Sankalp is being carried out in Bastar.”

The Dy CM also expressed his incognizance over the media reports linked with Mission Sankalp, stressing that he is completely unaware about the source of the news.

He further emphasised that the figures pertaining to the fatalities occurred on Maoist’s side during the ongoing operation at Karreguta was also not true.

“There have been news related to the said Mission Sankalp that it has been completed with 22 Maoists bodies recovered. I am not sure from where this news has been coming to the fore but it is misleading, neither any such operation namely Sankalp is being carried out nor the figures related to the fatalities is true,” said the Dy CM.

He added that “there is more besides the figures floating in the media related to the said campaign. The operation which is being carried out at the Karregutta Hills is a routine campaign like others being carried out.”

“The operation is being carried out on the valour and courage of our security personnel only and official information and figures related to the said operation will be shared once the operation is completed,”  said Sharma while reiterating that the information and figures related to the said operation floating around is misleading.

Reports emerged earlier that security forces have neutralised 22 Maoists during an ongoing encounter in Karregutta Hills along Telangana border in Chhattisagrh’s Bijapur district.

This comes a fortnight after separate units of security forces launched a major operation at deep forested zones of Karregutta Hills, a natural fortress of the Maoists since long.

The joint team of security forces had also recovered bodies of 4 Maoists who were neutralised in encounters at the aforesaid area on April 24 and May 4. The operation was launched after the police received intelligence related to presence of several top Maoist cadres in the said area.
