New Delhi: Three Over Ground Workers (OWGs) of the banned outfit CPI (Maoist) have been sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) each by a special NIA court of Jagdalpur, informed the agency in an official statement issued on April 24.
The accused were sentenced in connection with a case pertaining to supply of explosives materials to the cadres of the banned terror group in Chhattisgarh.
The accused identified as Semal Deepak, Nara Bhaskar and Telam Mutta, all residents of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district have been convicted and sentenced by the court under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act. All sentences will run concurrently, entailing 7 years in jail for the accused.
According to the agency, the accused were all active OWGs of the banned group who were arrested by the police in the year 2023. The police team had also recovered electronic detonators, codex wire and gelatin from the possession of the accused. The police had also nabbed one more accused in connection with the case though the arrested accused was later acquitted by the court.
The agency’s investigation into the case revealed that the accused were in touch with active Maoist cadres, and were involved in the procurement and supply of explosives and daily use items for these cadres.

The case was taken over by the NIA in February last year after it was registered initially by the state police. The agency during the course of investigation found several oral and documentary evidences to support the case, leading to conviction and sentencing of the accused by the special court.
Notably, the agency has been investigation a number of cases linked with the cadres, sympathisers, OWGs of the proscribed group across multiple states, ensuring arrest and imprisonment of several of its members through swift trials in special courts.
