Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 23 launched a scathing attack on Congress MP from Assam Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of maintaining suspicious ties with Pakistan. Without directly naming Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, CM Sarma alleged that the MP had spent 15 days in Islamabad without informing the Government of India and has connections with the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi.
Most dangerous enemy is within
Talking to the media, CM Sarma stated, “Pakistan is our big enemy, but the people who praise Pakistan while living inside our country are the most dangerous enemies of our nation.” He further claimed that Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has uncovered “sensational facts” regarding the MP’s alleged links with Pakistan through his British wife.
“By September, the people of the nation will know how a son of a proud father can go against the nation,” CM Sarma said, in an apparent reference to Gogoi, who is the son of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
Undisclosed Pakistan visit
The CM alleged that the MP had visited Islamabad for 15 days without official intimation to Indian authorities. He also claimed that the MP has maintained a relationship with the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi.
“The enemy from Pakistan can be identified, but the enemy inside our country is difficult to identify,” CM Sarma remarked, emphasizing the gravity of the alleged internal threat.
SIT probe & national security concerns
The Assam Police SIT is currently investigating the matter, and CM Sarma stated that “many sensational details related to national security” have emerged. He assured that the state government would take all necessary legal steps and make the findings public soon.
“The relation of the MP and his British wife with Pakistan is established in the ongoing investigation,” he added, without elaborating further.
The developments have sparked a heated debate on national security and the alleged infiltration of foreign influence in Indian politics. As the SIT probe progresses, more revelations are expected in the coming weeks.
