The Hindu Women Forum (HWF) proudly led the Hanuman Janmotsav celebrations this year at the Hindu Heritage Centre in Rotorua, bringing together the community in devotion, strength, and service.
The auspicious occasion, held on April 12, 2025, honoured the birth of Bhagwan Hanuman – the symbol of unwavering devotion, courage, and selfless service. This year’s celebration was unique as it was coordinated entirely by the dedicated women of the HWF, highlighting their growing role in cultural leadership and spiritual service within the community.
The event featured a vibrant and devotional programme, including bhajans, kirtans, reciting Hanuman Chalisa and concluding with aarti and prasadam. A special segment was devoted to recognising the power of women in preserving and promoting dharmic values across generations.
“The Hanuman Janmotsav is a reflection of our inner strength and collective unity,” said Neeru Vohra, coordinator of the Hanuman Janmotsav celebrations. “Hanuman inspires us to serve our families and communities with love, courage and humility – values that align deeply with our Forum’s mission.”
An open invitation was extended to girls and women of all ages who wished to volunteer or contribute to this blessed celebration—whether through singing, assisting with decorations, coordinating activities, or offering quiet support behind the scenes. Their seva was not only welcomed but deeply valued and appreciated.
The gathering saw participation from families across Rotorua, with attendees expressing their joy at the spiritually uplifting and well-organised event. The celebration concluded with a community meal (prasadam), symbolising unity and shared purpose.
“A long-cherished dream of the Hindu Heritage Centre — to host a weekly Bhajan and Kirtan evening — is now becoming a reality. The recent Shri Hanuman Jayanti celebration, led by Hindu women, marks just the beginning of this beautiful spiritual journey. I’m pleased to announce that Neeru Vohra will coordinate the weekly Bhajan and Kirtan sessions, which will be held every Saturday from 7:00 to 8:00 pm,” said Dr Guna Magesan, President of the Hindu Council of New Zealand.
“The Hanuman Janmotsav event not only celebrated devotion but also unveiled a wealth of new singing talent within our community. From here, we can only grow stronger and more united,” he added.
The Hindu Heritage Centre continues to serve as a vibrant hub for spiritual, cultural, and community activities. This Hanuman Jayanti has set a new precedent for inclusive celebrations led by women with devotion and vision.
