ABVP opposes auction of 400 acres of Hyderabad Central University land, submits memorandum to Education Minister

A delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad met the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and submitted a memorandum regarding the issue of encroachment and illegal auctioning of 400 acres of land belonging to Hyderabad Central University. The delegation urged the central government to intervene to protect this land and restore the university’s rightful claim over it.

ABVP also held a press conference strongly condemning the Telengana Government’s arbitrary actions and its attempts to suppress the student’s voice. ABVP made it clear that handing over land dedicated to education and research to private stakeholders is not only unjust but also gravely affects the ecological balance of the area. This land holds not only academic significance but also an important environmental heritage due to its rich biodiversity. It serves as a natural habitat for many rare species, whose existence would be endangered by this move. The destruction of this land would severely disrupt the biological ecosystem, leading to long-term negative impacts on climate balance, wildlife conservation, and environmental stability.

This land of Hyderabad University is not just merely piece of land but an academic and ecological heritage that will not be allowed to be destroyed under any circumstances. When ABVP activists and student community raised their voice against this injustice the Telengana Police forcefully entered the campus without the permission and arrested the students. This is not only an attack on student rights but also on the university’s autonomy. ABVP demands that the central government intervene immediately, return the 400-acre land to the university, and ensure the official transfer of the entire 2,320-acre land to prevent any future encroachments.

ABVP’s National Secretary Shivangi Kharwal stated, “This land of Hyderabad University is not just a piece of land but a national academic and environmental heritage. The government’s intention to hand it to private companies is an assault on student’s rights. ABVP will not compromise on this issue and if need arises, we will launch a nationwide movement.”

ABVP’s National Secretary Shravan B Raj stated, “Encroachment on the land of educational institutions is condemnable in any form. The sole purpose of university land should be education and research not earning commercial profits through auctions. We will intensify our fight, mobilize students and take every possible step to ensure that university retains its rightful claim. Today we submitted the memorandum to Union Education Minister, and were assured that Central Government will take this matter into serious consideration and they have already written a letter to Telengana Government CM urging to resort to immediate solution and promised that Central Government will act upon it sternly.”
