Mandala (MP): Security forces in a swift operation launched on April 2 have neutralised two seasoned female Maoist cadres in an exchange of fire in Mandala district of Madhya Pradesh (MP), said officials.

The operation was launched in the early hours of Wednesday after the police received information related to presence of Maoists in forest areas under the jurisdiction of Bichiya Police station.

A joint team of security personnel comprising personnel from ‘Hawk Force’, a special unit of the state police trained in counter-insurgency operations were subsequently dispatched towards the aforesaid localities, leading to an encounter with the extremists. The personnel during the gun battle neutralised two female cadres of the banned Maoist outfit.

According to the details, both of them were carrying a bounty of Rs 14 lakh each as announced by the Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra governments. The joint team following the encounter also recovered a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), wireless set, rifle and other materials from the site. An extensive search operation in the vicinity of the site is underway.

Reacting to the encounter, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav lauded the efforts of the security forces. Taking to X, the CM wrote “I congratulate all the jawans of security force for this bravery and courage. Certainly this success will give impetus to the resolve to completely free Bharat from the Naxal problem by March 2026 under the guidance of PM Modi and leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.”

“The country and MP will be completely free from terrorism, Naxalism and extremism,” he added.

Notably, three women Maoists were also killed in an exchange of fire with the police in Balaghat district in February this year.

The gun battle had taken place under Garhi police station limits of Balaghat, leading to neutralisation of three women Maoists. The security personnel during the operation had also seized an INSAS rifle, SLR rifle and a 303 rifle along with other materials from the site.

It is worth mentioning here that three districts of the state namely, Balaghat, Mandala and Dindori are reported to be infested by the Maoist insurgency.  All these aforementioned districts of the state are believed to be part of the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone, proposed by the Maoist top rung in the year 2019.

It was then reported that the decision to create a separate zone was made largely to find an alternative of Abujhmad, a long held bastion of Maoists, where the security forces have increased their presence in recent years.

Though, continuous operations of the security forces in the bordering areas of MP, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division has foiled the attempt of the group to increase their presence and establish a safe hideout in the proposed MMC zone.
