Love Jihad in Karnataka: Growing lawlessness

Congress Party’s track record vis a vis crime, minority appeasement and corrupt track record is well known. This is evident from the way the Siddaramaiah-led Congress Government is shielding those involved in Love Jihad, land grabbing and other criminal activities in Karnataka. As a result, there is a spurt in these crimes

In a recent incident, a Muslim group allegedly pelted stones at the girls’ toilet at a Government school in Huliyar town in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district. Even more shocking is how the group attacked a student Yaswanth lethally with sticks when he confronted them. Consequently, the police arrested Mehboob Sharif, Shamshuddin, Irfan, Mubaraq, Muddassir, Yasim, and Tazim, who are all residents of Huliyar. This incident has created panic among villagers about possible attacks in the future.

Den of Criminals

Once a pensioners’ paradise, Bengaluru has become a criminals’ paradise. Land grabbers have a field day without any fear of the law of the land, and property owners are losing their peace of mind in saving their piece of land.

Neha Hiremath was stabbed to death on a university campus by her former classmate, Fayaz Khandunayak. It was a case of ‘Love Jihad’, while the Congress argued that the incident was the unfortunate result of a personal

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Employees Housing Cooperative Society (BBMPEHCS) issued a public notice and requested its members to safeguard their sites from land grabbers portraying the seriousness of the issue. The BBMPEHCS allotted 765 sites of different dimensions to its members in Tavarekere, Chunchanakuppe, Ajjanahalli, Doddamaranahalli, Sulevara, and adjoining areas on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Modus Operandi of Landgrabbers

The notice issued on March 17, 2025, mentioned that, “Beware of landgrabbers. They are snatching the sites by creating concocted documents and illegally occupying them. We strongly advise erecting a permanent compound wall all around the site and securing it properly. The simple fencing will not be good as the mafia may steal the fencing materials itself.” There was a violent clash at the famous Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru and the general public who went to relax there had to run to save themselves.

Parks Pose Safety Risks

Miscreants were celebrating Holi inside the popular tourist spot when all of a sudden, violence erupted. They allegedly started attacking each other with sticks and water bottles. The brawl went on for a long time and there was no fear of authorities. The locals protested outside the Siddapura Police Station and demanded that there needs to be strict vigil in public places. This incident shows that the public is not safe in parks.

Basavaraj Bommai, a MP and former CM of Karnataka, blamed Siddaramaiah-led Congress Govt for creating a conducive atmosphere for criminals. He recalled another Love Jihad case that happened at Hubballi over the killing of Neha Hiremath last year

Love Jihad Results in Murder

The brutal murder of 22-year-old victim Swati Byadagi has resurfaced the ‘Love Jihad’ incident in the State. Swati was a native of Masuru village in Rattihalli Taluk, Haveri district, and worked as a staff nurse at a private hospital in Ranebennur city.

Swati was passionate about attending bull-taming sports, a traditional event in Haveri district. During one such event, she met the accused Nayaz and fell in love with him. Nayaz started ignoring her and this led to arguments. Nayaz had discussed his plan of killing Swati with his friends Vinay and Durgachari. On the pretext of talking to her, Nayaz called Swati and took her to Swarna Park in Ranebennur town. Later, the accused drove Swati to Rattihalli in a car, where they strangled her to death inside an abandoned school building using a towel. Later, they placed her body in the trunk of the car and dumped it into the Tungabhadra River, the police revealed. Swati went missing on March 3, and her body was found in Tungabhadra River  on March 6.

Shielding Miscreants

Basavaraj Bommai, a Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, blamed Siddaramaiah-led Congress Government for creating a conducive atmosphere for criminals. He recalled another Love Jihad case that happened at Hubballi over the killing of Neha Hiremath last year and accused the State Government of shielding the miscreants. “The incidences of Love jihad, land grabbing, rowdyism, and gold smuggling are increasing in Karnataka as the miscreants are not afraid of the Congress Government. It seems the Government is not punishing the miscreants but protecting them instead,” said Basavaraj Bommai.
