Dantewada: Security forces have gunned down three Maoists in an encounter in Bastar’s Dantewada district on March 25, said police.

According to the preliminary information, a gunfight broke out between the forces and Maoists in forest area near the Dantewada-Bijapur border at around 8 in the morning.

Following the gun battle, bodies of three Maoists have been recovered from the spot. The security team has also seized firearms and explosives from the encounter site. The operation is still reported to be underway in the area and further details are awaited.

Notably, security forces on March 20 recovered bodies of 30 Maoists following two separate encounters in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur and Kanker districts. The personnel had also recovered a large cache of weapons including SLR and AK-47 rifles.

Earlier, 31 Maoists were killed in a major operation launched by a joint team of security personnel in Indravati Park Area in Bijapur in February this year.

It is worth mentioning here, that over 100 Maoist cadres have been neutralised in separate encounters in the state since January this year, marking continuation of the security forces aggressive campaign in violence-hit Bastar division.
