Chaibasa: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sub-inspector injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district succumbed to his injuries on March 22, officials said.
According to Chaibasa Police, Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar Mandal and Head Constable Parth Pratim Dey of the CRPF 193rd battalion were injured in the blast, which occurred in the forest area of Marangponga under Chotanagra Police Station limits on Saturday.
Both personnel were airlifted to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment. However, Sub-Inspector Mandal succumbed to his injuries, officials said. Further details are awaited.
Notably another CRPF Sub-Inspector had sustained injuries in a similar explosion that occurred in Jaraikela area of Chaibasa in Jharkhand on March 18. The injured SI was later airlifted to Ranchi.
The blast took place after an encounter with Maoists during a joint operation of police and the CRPF near forests of Radha Poda.
It must be noted that continuous counter-insurgency operations are being launched in the Saranda/Kolhan area, a stronghold of Maoists where many of the top cadres of the proscribed group are believed to be camping.
The region is prone to IED explosions and three personnel of CRPF had also sustained injuries in a similar blast occurred during a combing operation in March this year.
