Patna: Former minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Jaiswal has been officially re-elected as the new party president of Bihar unit of the BJP on Tuesday March 4.

The announcement of Jaiswal’s name was made by the Bihar BJP Council in-charge Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday, marking continuation of Jaiswal tenure as party president after he assumed the post in July last year, replacing Samrat Choudhary.

Both Choudhary and Jaiswal were inducted into the cabinet in January last year after the BJP returned to power in the state with CM Nitish Kumar joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Jaiswal resigned from the cabinet to conform with his party’s policy of ‘one person, one post’ on February 26, this year. He was the minister of Revenue and Land Reform.

Earlier in the day, Jaiswal announced that the party will nominate a new state president as the ‘Sangathan Parv’ reaches its final stage. The process will also include the nomination of members for the national council ahead of the party’s National Presidential elections.

Sharing his view, BJP MLA and Minister Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu said, “Elections for the new party president are going on, and all leaders and workers of the party have come here from across the state. Dilip Jaiswal is going to be our state president again. We will achieve our target for the 2025 assembly elections.”

BJP under Jaiswal will be contesting the upcoming assembly elections as part of the NDA led by CM Nitish Kumar. Other than BJP and Janata Dal (United), Chirag Paswan led LJP (Ram Vilas), Jeetan Ram Manjhi led HAM (Secular) and Upendra Kushwaha led RLM are the other parties in the alliance.

NDA will be up against the Rashtriya Janata Dal led I.N.D.I.A block with Congress and left parties among its key allies. Notably, assembly elections in Bihar are likely to be held in October-November of this year.
