The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has suspended MLC Ch. Naveen, popularly known as Teenmaar Mallanna, for his remarks against the caste census report released by the state government. The party’s Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) announced the decision on Saturday, citing his failure to respond to a show-cause notice issued earlier this month.

According to DAC Chairman G. Chinna Reddy, Naveen was served a notice on February 5, asking him to explain his statements and provide a response by February 12. However, as no reply was received within the stipulated time, the committee decided to take disciplinary action.

Political Background

Naveen, who gained prominence through television journalism, transitioned into politics as an independent candidate in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda MLC elections in 2021, where he secured the second position. He later joined the BJP in December 2021 before switching to the Congress in November 2023. In 2024, he successfully contested and won the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda MLC seat as a Congress candidate.

His suspension comes amid growing debates on the caste census and its implications in Telangana politics. While Congress has maintained that the survey aims to ensure better policy decisions, Naveen’s opposition to the report created differences within the party leadership.
