Declaring the use of the Sanskrit language as a misuse of taxpayers’ money, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran’s anti-Sanskrit statement not only reflects his petty thinking but is also an insult to the Constitution. By proving Sanskrit to be a dead language, Dayanidhi Maran has also proved that if a person grows old, his knowledge, experience, and intelligence can be ignored, and he can be given the status of dead. Sanskrit is not just a language but the soul of Bharat. On the one hand, the whole world accepts Bharat’s intellect, science, technology, and knowledge traditions; on the other hand, the representatives living in the country are working to tarnish the country’s positive intellectual wealth.
Sanskrit is also mentioned in the 22 languages mentioned in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. In 1950, 14 languages were included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. Dayanidhi Maran says that the agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is behind the increasing use of Sanskrit. Maran should tell whether the Sangh added Sanskrit to the 8th Schedule in 1950. Dayanidhi Maran is asking in his argument whether Sanskrit is the official language of any state and that taxpayers’ money should be used for the promotion of Sanskrit? Perhaps Maran is also unaware of the fact that Sanskrit is the state language of Uttarakhand. Maran might be surprised to know that in the Constituent Assembly, a member named Nazaruddin Ahmed had highlighted the importance of Sanskrit in favour of Sanskrit. The misdeed of harming the identity, culture and form of Bharat in the session of Parliament is not expected from anyone, especially not from a public representative.
People with trivial intellect cannot easily understand intellectual literature, philosophy, Ayurveda, Bharatiya mathematics, physics, and chemistry, which are full of various knowledge, science, and research. Even Dayanidhi Maran can understand gravity only from the apple falling from a tree while Newton is sitting under a tree. Only utilitarian people like Maran can be in favour of the foolishness of considering Euclid as the father of geometry, despite the fact that proof of geometry was found in Baudhayana’s Sulva Sutras 3000 years ago. These subjects need to be taught not only in universities but also to such corrupt-minded public representatives who are engaged in cutting their own roots every day.
In Bharat itself, Mattur village, located in the Shimoga district of Karnataka, a state adjacent to his state, is called the Sanskrit village of Bharat. The people of this village use Sanskrit as their spoken language. The question is not whether someone speaks that language or not; the question is whether it is right to strangle to death a language and its vast ancient literature, which is proving its relevance even in modern times. Such negative comments about the symbols of Bharatiya identity by public representatives are reprehensible. Dayanidhi Maran should apologize in the House of Parliament for this statement. Through this article, all Sanskrit lovers are requested to protest against Dayanidhi Maran’s statement at their respective places.
