Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP State President Babulal Marandi has launched a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren-led government over the non-payment of financial assistance under the Maiya Samman Yojna, alleging negligence in fulfilling commitments to women beneficiaries. Addressing a press conference in Ranchi, Marandi accused the state administration of failing to prioritise welfare schemes, leaving thousands of women without their promised financial aid.
Under the Maiya Samman Yojna, launched by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government, eligible women were initially promised Rs 1,000 per month, later revised to Rs 2,500 for families living below the poverty line. However, payments for January 2025 have yet to be disbursed, raising concerns among beneficiaries who rely on the scheme for financial stability.
“As per the promise, the amount of the Maiya Samman Yojna should have been transferred to the accounts of all the sisters of the state by tomorrow, but till now the government has not even paid the amount for January. The government should explain what is causing the delay,” Marandi said, as quoted by The Hindu.
Marandi further criticised the administration for its handling of key welfare programs, alleging that the government has consistently ignored pressing public issues. “Youth, farmers, and women have all been neglected. Despite multiple cabinet meetings, no concrete action has been taken to address their concerns,” he stated.
The Maiya Samman Yojna played a crucial role in the INDIA bloc’s electoral victory in Jharkhand, helping it secure 56 out of 81 seats in the 2024 Assembly elections. In response, the BJP had introduced the Gogo-Didi Yojna, promising Rs 2,100 per month to women beneficiaries.
Marandi accused the government of failing to support the most vulnerable sections of society. “Even pensions for elderly and widowed women remain unpaid, and thousands of poor tribal families are deprived of their rightful ration. This government’s indifference is an insult to the people of Jharkhand,” he said.
He also warned of political repercussions if the issue remains unresolved. “If the government does not take immediate action, BJP will launch a statewide movement to demand justice for the beneficiaries.”
Responding to the accusations, JMM spokesperson Tanuj Khatri dismissed Marandi’s claims as politically motivated. He defended the state government’s track record, asserting that the Hemant Soren administration remains committed to women’s welfare.
“Babulal Marandi’s baseless allegations are nothing but another desperate attempt by the BJP to mislead the people of Jharkhand. The Hemant Soren government has always prioritised women’s welfare, launching historic schemes that directly benefit them,” Khatri told media.
