Patna: In a significant development that has elated the adherer of Sanatan Dharma; a centuries old “Shiva temple” was unearthed in Alamganj area of Bihar’s capital Patna.

The newly discovered temple is said to be made of black granite. The discovery was made following a land subsidence incident that occurred on Sunday’s afternoon, January 5.

The incident led the locals to excavate the site further, leading to unearthing of the temple. A magnificent ‘Shivlinga’ along with Padchinhas (footmarks) were found at the Centre with the temple walls filled with beautifully crafted engravings .

The Shiva idol placed inside the sanctum sanctorum was said to be made of “Ashtadhatu”. It is being speculated that the temple belongs to 15th century.

As soon as the news of discovery spread across the locality, hundreds of devotees started gathering near the place with many started worshipping the ‘Shivlinga’. The locality was soon started reverberating with the joyful cheers of “Har Har Mahahdev”.

The temple sits on a private land in Narayan Babu Street of Alamganj which was a dumping ground for the locals till recent. Report suggests that the temple land belongs to a Math.

According to the locals, a priest used to live near the temple site. Though following his demise, the  family members of priest too vacated the place. Long after the family left the place, it became a dumping ground for the locals who were completely unaware of the temple under the site.

A 500-year-old magnificent Ashtadhatu Shiva temple was found inside a “garbage dump” in Patna.

The temple made of black granite which is still intact was discovered during the excavations by the local people.
