It should be mentioned that the BJP led Assam government has already banned the slaughtering of cows in the state through the Assam cattle protection act 2021. Thousands of cow smugglers were arrested by police and security agencies in the last 8 years in the state.

Earlier Congress MP Rokibul Hussain alleged that BJP won the by-election in Samaguri constituency by offering beef to woo them.CM Sarma in reply to the allegation said that Congress knew it better whether election could be win by offering beef or not as Rokibul Hussain was the MLA of the minority dominated constituency for 24 years. BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sharma won the November 13 by-election with over 25000 votes defeating the Congress candidate and MP Rokibul Hussain’s son.
