Munambam stir against Waqf terror is gathering further momentum. Members of all victim families came out, on November 24, against Waqf. They carried out protest marches in the streets of Munambam. Later on, the protesters drowned ‘Waqf’ in effigy in the sea. The other day, Munambam Protection Council had rejected the chief minister’s decision to appoint a Judicial Commission. They see it as a betrayal.
People, including children, lined up in the march. They shouted slogans like “Give us back the right to our land”, “Drown the jungle Waqf law into the sea for the good of the country”, etc. Conspiracies taking place in Munambam to grab the land; it won’t be allowed. The protesters said that the rules that are implemented without the knowledge of the people should be drowned in the Munambam sea. The victims’ anger was evident in the march. The march carrying the effigy of the Waqf terror commenced from the Velankanni Mata church premises and traversed to the beach where ‘Waqf law’ was drowned in the sea. Fr. Antony Xavier, Fr. Francis, Fr. Johnson and Siji Jinson led the march.
Justice CN Ramachandran has reportedly said that the government has not issued any order specifying what are to be inquired into. He tries to finish his work at the earliest. But, if it does not happen, the duration of the Commission will have to be extended.
The latest development speaks out that the government is in no mood to put an end to the issue. Victims are quite disappointed. On the other hand, pro-Waqf forces keep on stating that they are determined to evict the victims and own the land with the support of ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). BJP and RSS-inspired Hindu forces are the only movements to support the Munambam victims.
