Bhubaneswar: The International Gita Mahotsav will take place in Kurukshetra, Haryana, from November 28 to December 15. While Tanzania will be the partner country, Odisha will participate as the partner state. The festival will showcase a variety of cultural events throughout its duration. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini made this announcement at a press conference in Haryana, which was attended by Odisha’s Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj highlighted Odisha’s role as the state partner in this year’s Gita Mahotsav, stating that holding the festival in India’s sacred land has given Indian culture and traditions a unique identity on the global stage. The celebration of the Gita Mahotsav in countries such as England, Canada, and Sri Lanka reflects the ideals and influence of Bharatiya culture and heritage worldwide.
He emphasised that Odisha’s involvement as a partner state this year is a matter of pride and honour, providing a unique platform for showcasing Odia language, literature, folk art, and culture at both national and international levels. He expressed hope that this participation will strengthen Odisha’s cultural presence and recognition on a broader scale.
Moreover, he noted that Odisha’s participation will promote the exchange of folk art, culture, and traditions between Odisha and Haryana. Through various exhibitions and pavilion setups, the rich folk art, culture, heritage, and traditions of both states, as well as of the country, will be exhibited. This will create an educational experience for all visitors and offer distinct recognition for Odia language, literature, and culture on the international stage.
The minister also outlined plans to present Odisha’s glorious history, folk art, folk dance, literature, and traditions at this year’s Gita Mahotsav.
This year, the International Gita Mahotsav will span 18 days. In the 2023 edition, over 4.5 million people participated, and a significant crowd is also anticipated this year. Since its inception in India in 2016, the Gita Mahotsav has expanded internationally, with events held in countries like London, Canada, Sri Lanka, and Australia since 2019.
