Tamil Nadu: BJP’s Annamalai slams DMK govt over lawlessness in state after teacher & advocate killed in broad daylight

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai condemned the killing of a teacher in a government school and the stabbing of an advocate inside a court compound, citing the worsening law and order situation. He urged the government to take action to address these issues rather than divert attention elsewhere, calling for Chief Minister Stalin to act

In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman teacher was hacked to death by a man allegedly over a personal rift on the premises of a government school in Thanjavur district on November 20.

The deceased, identified as Ramani (26), was attacked with a knife by the accused, identified as Madhan (30), on November 20 morning in personal vengeance.

According to the Thanjavur police, “Preliminary investigations revealed that Madhan had love interest for Ramani following which his family expressed interest in arranging their marriage, to which Ramani declined. Frustrated by her refusal, Madhan attacked Ramani in the staff room of the government school.”

Upon receiving the information, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh promptly visited the scene and directed the Thanjavur District Collector to arrange counselling for the students who witnessed the tragic incident, to help them cope with the trauma.

Preliminary findings indicate that both individuals were from the same area and were acquainted. A misunderstanding appears to have led to the incident. The attack took place in the staff room, which was accessible as the gate was open and no watchman was present. The accused was already familiar with the staff room’s location. Further investigations are underway.

Hours after a teacher was killed, a 39-year-old advocate was hacked to death in broad daylight near the Hosur court premises in Tamil Nadu, marking the second gruesome killing in the state on November 20.

Advocate Kannan was attacked with a sickle by a man named Anand, who, according to the police, was driven by anger and resentment after discovering an alleged affair between Kannan and his wife. The brutal murder in a high-security area like the Hosur court premises, located near a local police station, has created widespread alarm. The incident has raised concerns among lawyers at the Hosur court.

The two horrific murders on the same day have sparked outrage among Opposition parties, who criticised the DMK government led by Chief Minister M K Stalin for the worsening law and order situation in the state.

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai also criticised the government for its alleged failure to maintain law and order.

In a post on X, Annamalai wrote: “A teacher was murdered in the classroom today in Tanjore, and here an advocate is being brutally attacked in broad daylight in Hosur. These incidents reflect the disastrous law and order situation in Tamil Nadu under the DMK government. Thiru @mkstalin should be ashamed of turning Tamil Nadu into a lawless jungle. If this government puts even a little effort into fixing issues rather than diverting them, we would not see such lawlessness.”

Leader of Opposition, Edappadi K Palaniswami, strongly condemned both the DMK government and the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio.

In a post on X, he stated: “The news is shocking that a lawyer, Kannan, has been brutally hacked to death with a scythe in broad daylight at the court premises in Hosur, Krishnagiri district. Under this DMK regime, department-wise killings are taking place in government premises such as medical, school education, and judicial departments. This clearly shows the true state of law and order under Mr. @mkstalin’s direct control. I strongly condemn the DMK Chief Minister, who has failed in his duties, and urge him to focus on addressing the real issues rather than relying on empty advertisements.”

The brutal murders of a teacher and an advocate in Tamil Nadu on the same day highlight the alarming lawlessness that has gripped the state. The rising frequency of such incidents underscores the deterioration of law and order under the DMK government. Opposition leaders have strongly criticised Chief Minister Stalin for his inability to ensure safety and justice.
