In a surprising turn of events, some Khalistanis who have been seeking a separate Khalistan nation carved out of Bharat have now made new enemies. They are not the Indians, but White Canadians.
In a video, a Khalistan activist can be heard shouting at White Canadians to leave the country and go to Europe. They say that Canada is Khalistan and the Canadians are invaders. The video was shot during a ‘nagar kirtan’ procession in the Surrey area of Canada’s British Columbia.
What is interesting about this entire incident is that the Khalistanis, who took shelter in Canada so that they could remain safe and wage a battle against Bharat, have taken a U-turn. The very purpose of their movement was to seek a Khalistan nation that is carved out of Bharat’s Punjab.
A positive and a huge negative
This is what Bharat has been warning Canada about for long. Since many years, Bharat has maintained that the demand for a Khalistan nation is not legitimate and Canada should turn in these elements it has been sheltering for several years now owing to silly vote bank politics. If such incidents continue to occur, then it would not be wrong to state that Canada, like Pakistan, has created its Frankenstein Monster, and its backyard is no longer safe. All these days, the Khalistani elements had turned against the Indians and Hindus in Canada. The sloganeering asking Hindus to leave Canada and go to Bharat had become a common occurrence.
However, this is a new shift, and in the days to come, it could only get worse. The real desperation can now be seen in Amar Bhushan, a former officer with the Research and Analysis Wing, tells Organiser. It could get worse over the days to come and Canada then cannot complain that they were not warned, he adds.
While Bharat does not propagate trouble in foreign countries and wishes that all nations remain in peace, this incident comes as a ‘I told you so moment.’ What New Delhi would be hoping now is for Canada to clear up its mess and hand over the numerous terrorists and gangsters that Canada is sheltering. There have been scores of extradition requests made to Canada, but these files are catching dust.
Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, instead of honouring these requests, has instead accused Bharat of being the aggressor. He cannot even hide his support for these elements because the world knows that his minority government is being backed by the likes of pro-Khalistan elements such as Jagmeet Singh.
How Bharat handled the Khalistan issue at home
There are various factors that have led to this desperation among the Khalistanis. For this, one would first have to commend Bharat’s security forces, who have now, for over a decade, not allowed the movement to flourish in the country. The security forces have been relentless in their efforts to ensure that the movement gains no traction in Punjab.
The security agencies, including the local police, have not only acted against any attempt being made to revive the movement but have ensured that the youth of Punjab is educated about the ills of such issues. The point has been driven into the minds of the youth that this movement only brings about destruction, and they are even told about what happened to the state of Punjab during the days of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
It is not as though there were no setbacks. There were a series of targeted killings of Hindus and blasts outside court premises and the Intelligence headquarters of the Punjab police. The issue worsened when Pakistan began sending in drones galore with drugs and arms in a bid to revive this movement. There were failures at first, but the security agencies got their act together and ensured that these designs stopped succeeding. Today, there are hardly any incidents, and even the smallest of attempts that are made to revive the movement are crushed with an iron fist.
Another event that looked like it would get traction was when self-styled leader Amritpal Singh began his movement. He was brought in from Dubai by the ISI, not because he believed in the movement but because he resembled Bhindranwale and spoke a lot like him. This was probably their best chance to revive the movement.
Singh had managed to amass a lot of followers. The security agencies at first appeared to be slow in acting against Singh. However, the forces adopted a wait-and-watch strategy and let him exhaust all his resources. This wait-and-watch strategy worked, and Singh and his followers got desperate, following which they indulged in violence. That was the last straw, and Singh, after a dramatic chase, was arrested, and since then, his movement collapsed like a pack of cards.
While the problem in Punjab remains largely contained, Bharat has turned its eyes towards Canada. It is almost on a daily basis that officials from New Delhi send requests to Canada to have the Khalistan elements extradited. With Canada denying all these requests, Bharat has also managed to portray Canada in a bad light. There is pressure being built on Ottawa on an international scale, and Trudeau has more often than not been seen as the man who is shielding terrorists for his own political goal.
Why the shift
Friday’s incident in which the white Canadians are asked to leave has come as a surprise to many. The reason why these Khalistanis want to turn against the white Canadians is because there is desperation setting in. One of the main reasons for such desperation is because the movement is nearly dead in Punjab. Their reliance on the ISI, which they had hoped would help them, has not turned out exactly the way they would have wanted. The ISI’s major focus is on Kashmir, and hence, the Khalistan movement is secondary for the spy agency.
Since Trudeau’s rant against India, many in his own party have turned against him. The opposition in Canada is gunning for him on this issue as the elections are fast approaching. This has even forced Trudeau to wash his hands off a little bit, who said recently that Khalistanis do not represent all the Sikhs in Canada. Further, it appears that Canada is trying to act against these elements. While it is on a very small scale now, the Khalistanis still feel very let down by Trudeau’s recent statements and actions such as the arrest of Arsh Dalla.
Further, these elements also show that a lot has changed on the world stage. They had a field day under the administration of Joe Biden in the US, who was also a strong believer like Trudeau that the Khalistanis had the right to speech. The approach by President-elect Donald Trump would be very different. He would not lecture Bharat on what the country needs to do on this issue. There is every chance that he may step up the pressure for countries such as Canada to act against these terrorists. Trump had displayed his resolve to fight terror during his first tenure, and this time around, things would not be any different.
All these factors have led to the Khalistanis getting desperate. An analysis by the Intelligence agencies suggests that they are likely to get more desperate in the days to come, and one would not be surprised if the white Canadians come under attack.
