Tensions escalated in the Chhatripura area of Indore on November 1, following a dispute between neighbours from Hindu and Muslim communities over the bursting of firecrackers one day after Deepawali. The argument rapidly escalated, leading to a violent clash in which both sides hurled stones at each other, resulting in minor injuries to several individuals, according to reports citing police sources.

The altercation reportedly began in the afternoon when children in the neighbourhood were setting off firecrackers. Residents from a neighbouring Muslim community expressed their displeasure, which resulted in a confrontation that spiralled out of control. Eyewitnesses stated that in a fit of rage, members of the aggrieved community vandalised parked vehicles, smashing windows and causing property damage.

A substantial police force was dispatched to the scene to defuse the situation and restore order. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 4, Rishikesh Meena, confirmed that the conflict occurred in the Ravidas Pura locality under the jurisdiction of the Chhatripura police station. “Three individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment,” Meena stated.

To ensure safety in the area, around 80 police officers were deployed. “The situation is currently under control, and we advise everyone in Indore to ignore any rumours or misinformation circulating regarding the incident. Strict actions will be taken against those found responsible for the violence,” he added.

Following the incident, Eklavya Gaur, son of local MLA Malini Gaur, visited the Chhatripura police station accompanied by members of various Hindu organizations. They demanded stringent punishment for those involved in the violence from the opposing community. In response to the heightened tensions, additional police officers from nearby stations, including Malharganj, Pandrinath, and Sarafa, were dispatched to the area.

In a disturbing similar attack, a Hindu family in Faridabad, Haryana, faced violence allegedly from a Muslim mob during Diwali celebrations. The incident unfolded in the Anandpur locality, where family members, including children and women, were reportedly attacked for bursting firecrackers. Two men, identified as Raj and Ashiq, allegedly led the mob that assaulted the family, which included physical and sexual harassment of a female member.

According to reports, the family’s minor son, Durga Prasad, was bursting firecrackers outside their house in Subhash Colony when a group of local residents confronted him. This confrontation escalated into a violent argument, resulting in the mob pelting stones and bricks at the family’s residence. The family sought refuge inside, locking their doors, but the mob forcibly broke in, attacking the family members with sticks.

The situation escalated further when the mob attempted to sexually assault the family’s elder daughter, inflicting physical injuries and distress. In the aftermath of this harrowing event, the victim’s family expressed their desire to leave the neighbourhood and even considered selling their home due to the traumatic experience.
