PATNA: In a significant catch by Gaya police, a foreign national was apprehended while he was attempting to flee the country from Gaya airport, said police in an official release on Saturday, October 19. The person was identified as Babu Joe Barua alias Rajiv Dutta, a Bangladeshi national, staying in Bharat for the last 10 years.

The arrest was made following the police received an intel about a person attempting to flee the country with the help of bogus documents from Gaya airport. A police team apprehended Barua by arriving on the spot when he was about to board a flight to Thailand.

During the course of investigation, the authorities found that Barua was in possession of fake documentation such as a fake Indian passport, a PAN card, two Aadhar cards along with an identity card. He is reported to be living in the Indian territory without a valid passport and visa.

The police have also recovered foreign currencies including approx..1500 Thai Bhat and around 400 US dollars from the possession of the accused. A small amount in Euros was also recovered from him.

It was further revealed that a look out circular was already been issued against the arrested individual, who is staying at a Buddhist monastery in Gaya posing as a monk for the past 10 years.

A case against Barua under sections 318 (4)/ 336 (3)/340 (2) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant section of the Indian Passport Act has been registered at the Magadh Medical police station and the officials have initiated an inquiry into the matter.

Other than the police, Barua is also being interrogated by the officials of other security agencies, while an alert has been sounded across the district following his arrest. He has reportedly confessed about his crime during the investigation. Notably earlier a Chinese national was also detained by police in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.
