RAIPUR: Hours after the security personnel successfully neutralized three Maoist cadres following a gunfight in Abujhmaad of Narayanpur near Maharashtra border, a joint team of security forces have gunned down two more outlaws in a separate encounter in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, September 24, suggest reports.

A combing party comprising of personnel from District Reserve Guards (DRG), Bastar Fighters and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of Central Reserve Police Force was dispatched for a counter-insurgency operation in Karkanguda and adjoining regions on Monday evening.

An encounter broke out between the joint team and the Maoists near the banks of Chintawagu river under Chintalnaar police station limits of Sukma which lasted till early hours of Tuesday, informed a senior official of the police.

The gunfight resulted in causalities for the extremists, who managed to dragged bodies of both the slain Maoists in the dense forests, taking shelter of the swollen Chintawagu river. A cache of Maoist related materials was recovered from the site of the encounter, he added.

It’s been reported that the Maoists during the gunfight were also firing BGL shells, signifying their capabilities to manufacture and use country made grenade launchers.

It is to be noted, that in a separate operation launched on Monday, the forces have neutralized three Maoist cadres including a woman Maoists in an encounter in Abujhmaad forest area near Maharashtra border.

The recent surge in counter insurgency operations underscores the growing capabilities of forces to launch successful operations in the Maoists bastion of Bastar, a region notorious for Maoist insurgency since long.

Dozens of security bases have been established in the hinterlands of conflict-ridden Bastar division in recent years, providing strategic edge to the security forces in encircling the extremists and launching targeted operations against them.
