Chhattisgarh: Maoists hang two villagers to death on alleged charges of espionage in Bijapur’s Mirtur

Both the abducted villagers were paraded before a self-styled court of extremists after which they were hanged to death on alleged charges of being police informers

RAIPUR: In a horrifying development, cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) have killed two villagers on alleged charges of espionage after abducting and parading them before a self-styled public court in Mirtur area of violence ridden Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

The development came to light on Thursday, September 11, hours after members of the far left group executed two villagers following framing charges of espionage against them, an accusation often labelled by the Maoists before executing villagers who dares to differ with the outlawed group.

According to the reports, the extremists abducted both the villagers along with a student from Jappemarka village under Mirtur police station limits of Bijapur on Tuesday, September 9. The Ultras later paraded the abducted villagers before a “Jan Adalat”, a self-styled court of the Maoists, accusing them for being police informers and subsequently hanged them on nearby trees in full public view. The abducted student was reportedly released by the Maoists.

Following the execution, the extremists pasted hand written notes on the bodies of the deceased claiming responsibility for the horrifying act. As per the details, Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the Maoist has claimed the responsibility of the murders. The deceased villagers have been identified as Madvi Suja and Podiyam Kosa, both resident of Bijapur district.

The development has been confirmed by the officials of police who have now launched a probed into the matter. The incident underscores the severe situation faced by the residents of Maoist infested areas who lives with constant fear of being attacked and killed by the outfit responsible for unabated violence in the hinterlands of Bastar and adjoining regions for decades.

It must be noted that the extremists had earlier executed a total of three civilians in back to back targeted attacks carried out in the month of August. According to the officials of the police, the killings of innocent civilians by the extremists’ showcases the brewing frustration among them due to continuous advancement of security forces in core insurgency zone, culminating in major losses for the outlawed group.

Continuous campaign against the outlaws

Significantly, the recent killings of civilian by the outlaws have occurred amidst continuous operations of the security forces resulting in significant losses to the banned outfit. Additionally, the strengthening of the security forces in remote areas have further panicked the insurgents, a large number of whom are laying down arms and joining the mainstream.

According to the figures shared by the state government, around 550 extremists earlier indulged in carrying out various unlawful activities on behest of the Maoist outfit have surrendered before the authorities citing disillusionment with the Maoist’s ideology till August this year.

In the latest of such surrender, four cadres of the banned outfit carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 12 lakh have surrender before the authorities in conflict ridden Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, September 12.

According to the details, Sitaaye Korram alias Surjanna, Lakku Punem alias Naresh, both carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakhs have turned themselves and surrender before the police citing exploitation, disillusionment with the hollow ideology of the banned group on Thursday. The other two surrendered cadres have been identified as Sagar alias Ganga and Anju alias Sarita. Both Sagar and Anju were carrying a bounty of Rs1 lakh each in their heads.

Surjana joined the Maoist outfit in the year 2007 and was operating as the commander of the Local Organisation Squad (LOS) under the North Bastar division of the outlaws. She was involved in several attacks on the security forces including the 2010 attack in Narayanpur district where 27 security personnel were martyred. All of the surrendered cadres have been provided with an immediate assistance of Rs 25000 each and will be rehabilitated as per the state government surrender and rehabilitation policy.
