With Ganesh Chaturthi around the corner, the demand for Bhagwan Ganesh murtis has surged in Hyderabad, creating a bustling market scene. Artisans and sellers are witnessing a high demand for these murtis, which are being sourced from various regions, particularly Solapur in Maharashtra.

Kishore Yadav, a seasoned murti seller in Hyderabad, noted the consistent growth in demand over the years.

“I have been selling murtis here for the past 5-6 years, and the demand has always been strong. We source our murtis from Solapur, Maharashtra, which is renowned for its craftsmanship. Every year, we offer 150-200 varieties of murtis, and this year is no different,” he said.

Despite rising costs, customers are still flocking to the markets to purchase their preferred Ganesh murtis.

Pawan Kumar, a local resident, shared his experience, stating, “The prices of the murtis have been increasing over time, but I find them reasonable considering the quality. I recently bought a 2.5-foot tall murtis for Rs 5000, which is quite satisfactory.”

The diversity of the murtis, ranging from traditional to more contemporary designs, has contributed to the growing interest among devotees. As the festival draws nearer, the excitement in the city is palpable, with markets bustling and sellers preparing for what promises to be a successful season.

Visuals from Tiruchirappalli and Madurai districts show artisans hand painting various Ganesh murtis for the upcoming festival, with the market bustling with the full festive fervour in both districts.

Murtis of different sizes, colours, designs were seen in the market, available for purchase. Some murtis coloured green, some blue, others showing Bhagwan Ganesh sitting on a cow or a lion, showcasing the artistic skills of the artisans.

Along with this, the artisans are using herbal colours on the murtis, to not pollute the water like chemical colours during submersion of the murti. The painters are busy giving the final colours of the murtis in the districts.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2024, falling on September 7, marks the joyous celebration of Bhagwan Ganesh’s birth. Devotees across India and abroad prepare vibrant pandals, offer prayers, and perform rituals to seek the deity’s blessings for wisdom and prosperity. The festival concludes with the grand visarjan, where Ganesha murtis are immersed in water bodies amidst chants and music.
