The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organised Samanvay Baithak from August 31 to September 2 in Palakkad, Kerala. Multiple critical issues were addressed, focusing on women’s safety, cultural heritage, and national unity. The baithak was led by RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, Sunil Ambekar ji, who outlined the key decisions and strategies discussed during the meeting.
The significant focus of the baithak was on Panch Parivartan (Five Transformations), which is central to the centenary celebrations of RSS. The Panch Parivartan initiative emphasises:
- Cultural Revitalisation: Reaffirming and promoting the cultural heritage and values that bind the nation together.
- Economic Development: Encouraging sustainable economic practices that support local communities and national growth.
- Educational Reform: Overhauling the educational system to better align with contemporary needs and values.
- Social Harmony: Fostering social cohesion and addressing divisive issues with a focus on unity.
- Political Integrity: Promoting transparency and accountability in governance to ensure effective and just administration.
Women’s Safety and Security: A comprehensive five-level action plan
A central theme of the baithak was the enhancement of women’s safety and security, addressed through a multi-pronged strategy:
- Legal Measures: The need for stringent legal frameworks and their effective implementation was emphasised to safeguard women from violence and harassment. The focus is on ensuring that laws are not only enacted but also enforced rigorously to offer real protection.
- Social Sensitisation and Family Values: The baithak highlighted the importance of changing societal attitudes towards women. Efforts will be made to promote social sensitisation and reinforce positive family values that support and protect women.
- Educational Values: Integrating gender sensitivity into educational curricula across schools and colleges is crucial. This educational initiative aims to foster respect and equality from a young age, creating a foundation for a more equitable society.
- Self-Defense Programs: Implementing widespread self-defense training programs was discussed as a means to empower women physically and psychologically. These programs aim to build confidence and provide practical skills to handle potential threats.
- Regulation of Pornographic and Sexually Explicit Content: The baithak addressed the need to regulate pornographic and sexually explicit content on digital and OTT platforms. This measure aims to prevent misuse and mitigate the negative impact such content can have on societal attitudes towards women.
Commemorating Historical Figures: Ahilyabai Holkar and Rani Durgavati
Sunil Ambekar Ji also highlighted the upcoming celebrations for historical figures. The 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar will be marked with events recognising her contributions to societal improvements. Additionally, the 500th anniversary of Rani Durgavati’s reign will be celebrated by Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, with support from various organisations.
Further, the baithak addressed several regional issues with a focus on practical solutions and collaborative efforts:
- Wayanad Landslide: The devastating landslide in Wayanad was discussed, with a focus on preventive measures and ongoing relief and rehabilitation work by RSS-inspired organisations. Efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and response were emphasised to mitigate future risks.
- Tamil Nadu: Increasing concerns about conversion activities in Tamil Nadu were raised. The baithak called for coordinated efforts with government agencies to address these issues and ensure that the region remains stable and secure.
- Bangladesh: The plight of minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, was discussed. Organisations urged the Indian government to engage with the interim government of Bangladesh to address the concerns of minority communities and foster bilateral cooperation.
The RSS centenary is set to go beyond mere celebrations, with plans to implement social programs aimed at fostering positive societal change under the “Country First” motto.
During the Samanvay Baithak, deep concern was expressed over recent incidents in Bangladesh following the regime change, with calls for government intervention to protect Hindus and temples. The RSS also took a serious stance on mass conversions in Tamil Nadu, emphasising that poverty should not be exploited for conversions.
The Baithak recognised the commendable efforts of the RSS and Sevabharati in Wayanad, particularly in response to the devastating landslides, which received extensive coverage on Janam TV.
The discussion also highlighted the need for careful handling of reservations and caste census issues, stressing that these measures should benefit deserving communities rather than serve as tools for vote bank politics.
The Samanvay Baithak will conclude on September 2, afternoon with a valedictory address by RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat.
The baithak concluded with a keynote address by the Sarsanghchalak, who reinforced the importance of these transformations in achieving national progress. The emphasis was on ensuring that caste issues and other sensitive topics are addressed thoughtfully and do not become political tools that compromise national unity and integrity.
