Raipur: Maoists have executed yet another villager on alleged charges of espionage in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division. The fateful incident has occurred under Gangloor police station limits of Bijapur district where cadres of the Maoist outfit have brutally killed an elderly villager on Saturday, August 24.
The deceased villager Lancha Punem was a resident of Pusnar village who was stabbed to death reportedly for his alleged association with the police. Punem was said to be on the hit-list of Maoists who had warned him with dire consequences for more than once during public hearings in their so called Jan Adalat.
The incident has left the residents in a state of panic and fear given the surge in targeted killings by the Maoists amidst tightened measures adopted by the state government to contain the insurgency. The outlaws have also dropped pamphlets near the body of the deceased claiming responsibility of the gruesome murder.
The incident underscores the grim reality of the trauma faced by the villagers living in the regions marred by the Maoist terror. Notably, the development has occurred hours after the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah on the first day of his three-day visit to the violence ridden state asserted that the time has come to deal a decisive blow to the Maoist with a robust strategy. The Minister further assured that the government has set a goal to root out the Maoist insurgency from the country by March 2026.
Surge in incidents of civilian killings
It is worth mentioning here that despite the commendable success achieved by the security forces in the state of Chhattisgarh, leading to neutralisation of 179 Maoists and surrender of over 540 former cadres of the outlawed CPI Maoist in the last 6-7 months alone, the extremists on the other hand have unleashed a reign of terror by executing scores of civilians by labelling charges of espionage on them at the same time.
In a similar incident reported earlier, the cadres of the far left group have killed two tribal brothers in Puverti village of Sukma within a span of one week. The deceased were identified as Soyam Shankar and Sitaram, both residents of the Puverti village under the Jagargunda police station limits, a hotbed of insurgency for decades.

Female accomplice killed by Maoist in Telangana
It must be noted that recently a female Maoist commander identified as Radha was also executed by the members of her organisation on alleged charges of passing sensitive information to the police in Bhadradi Kothgudem district of Telangana, adjacent to the Odisha border. Radha’s body was later found lying in open.
According to the reports, the Maoists labelled charges of espionage before executing their former accomplice who according to the reports was willing to part ways with the violent group. However the outlaws in a press release later claimed that the deceased member was realised of her mistake and she herself choose death as she wanted to make an example out of her.
Refuting the claims made by the banned group, the police however maintained that the deceased female Maoist, Radha was a progressive lady and the Maoists had brainwashed her to take up arms.
