In a remarkable achievement, Lakshya Sen has etched his name in the annals of history by becoming the first Indian male player to reach the semi-finals of the men’s singles badminton event at the Summer Olympics. Sen’s performance at the Paris Olympics 2024 has captivated the nation and brought immense pride to Indian sports enthusiasts.

The 22-year-old shuttler’s journey to the semi-finals was not an easy one. In a thrilling quarter-final clash on Friday, August 2, Sen showcased his exceptional skills and mental fortitude as he overcame the challenge posed by Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou. Despite losing the opening game with a narrow margin of 21-19, Sen displayed an indomitable spirit and staged a remarkable comeback.

Sen’s resilience and tactical brilliance came to the fore in the second set, as he made crucial adjustments to his game. His improved return serves and anticipation of Chou’s smashes enabled him to dominate the court, securing a convincing 21-15 victory in the second set.

India’s badminton legacy at the Summer Games continues to shine bright as Lakshya Sen stands on the cusp of securing India’s fourth Olympic medal in the sport. Building on the successes of Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu in previous editions, Sen’s stellar performance has ignited hopes of another historic achievement for Indian badminton.

The journey began in 2012 when Saina Nehwal etched her name in the annals of Indian sports history by clinching a bronze medal at the London Games. Four years later, PV Sindhu soared to new heights, storming into the finals at the Rio Games to claim a historic silver. Sindhu further solidified her Olympic legacy by securing a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics three years ago.

Now, the spotlight falls on the young and talented Lakshya Sen, who finds himself just one win away from adding another medal to India’s tally at the Paris Summer Games.
